let no man mislead you by vain reasonings: for it is for these vices, that the wrath of God lights upon the incredulous.

when their language swells with vanity, by applying to the sensual passions of the licentious, they allure those who were escap'd for a while, from such deceivers:

then he said to them, take care to be clear of all avarice: for the enjoyment of life does not depend upon the having large possessions.

themselves to temptations and snares, and to many foolish noxious passions, which plunge men into ruin and perdition. for the love of money is the root of all evil: which some having obtain'd, have revolted from the faith, and brought upon themselves variety of piercing pains.

this will I do, said he, I will pull down my barns, and build greater: and there I will bestow all my rich product. then I will say to my soul, soul, you have many enjoyments in reserve for a number of years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. but God said to him, thou fool, this night shall thy soul be required of thee: who then shall enjoy what thou hast provided?

as we brought nothing into the world, certain it is, we can carry nothing away. having therefore food and raiment,

cry'd out, "sirs, what are you going to do? we are but men as well as you, and we exhort you to renounce these vanities, and turn to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth and the sea, and all that they contain:

considering, that it was not by such perishable things as silver or gold, that you were releas'd from those vain rites and customs impos'd upon you by your fathers,

and of his Plenitude have we all received, even abundant grace.

the thief comes only to steal, to kill, and destroy: but I am come that they might have life, and have it with all its advantages.

till being united in a perfect belief, and acknowledgment of the son of God, we grow up to that full state of maturity required by Christ:

and ye are filled by him, who is the chief of all principality and power:

by assuming the form of a servant: being made in the likeness of men,

for you are sensible of the beneficence of our Lord Jesus Christ; powerful as he was, for your sake he became poor, that you through his poverty might be made rich.
