The people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"

The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness; and the children of Israel said to them, "We wish that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"

There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. The people strove with Moses, and spoke, saying, "We wish that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD. Why have you brought the assembly of the LORD into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?read more.
Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink."

They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Sea of Suf, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. The people spoke against God, and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread."

When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us forth out of Egypt?

All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt. or would that we had died in this wilderness. Why does the LORD bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn't it be better for us to return into Egypt?"

and you murmured in your tents, and said, "Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

but murmured in their tents, and did not listen to the LORD's voice.

The people were complaining in the ears of the LORD. When the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled; and the LORD's fire burnt among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

"How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. Tell them, 'As I live, says the LORD, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,read more.
surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness, that he would overthrow their seed among the nations, and scatter them in the lands.

Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.

Then said the LORD to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

It shall happen, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you."

"My soul is weary of my life. I will give free course to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

"Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul, Who long for death, but it doesn't come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures, who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?read more.
Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, whom God has hedged in? For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water. For the thing which I fear comes on me, That which I am afraid of comes to me. I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest; but trouble comes."

"Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly.

My cry goes to God. Indeed, I cry to God for help, and for him to listen to me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord. My hand was stretched out in the night, and did not get tired. My soul refused to be comforted. I remember God, and I groan. I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah.

I pour out my complaint before him. I tell him my troubles.

Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?"

She said to them, "Do not call me Naomi. Call me Marah; for Shaddai has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has testified against me, and Shaddai has afflicted me?"

"Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?"

For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." So Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she could not,

So the couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun: but they ridiculed them, and mocked them.

but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.

For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart. I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.

A scoffer doesn't love to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.

The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against the LORD.

Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

"But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They do not cry for help when he binds them.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all of his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all of these things?"read more.
And they were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house." And he did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him. And when the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things?" and, "What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us?" They were offended at him.read more.
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house." And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. And he went around the villages teaching.

But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the son of David." they were indignant,

Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?"

Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying. Who can listen to it?" But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?

The Jewish people therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven." They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, 'I have come down out of heaven?'" Therefore Jesus answered them, "Do not murmur among yourselves.
