(For it is written, Rejoice thou barren, that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not; for the desolate hath many more children than she that hath an husband.

but every one hath his proper gift from God, one after this manner, another after that.

His disciples say to him, If the case of a man with his wife be so, it is not expedient to marry. But he said to them, All men cannot receive this saying, but they to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs, who were born so from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs, who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs, who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

But if they have not power over themselves, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn.

But the younger widows refuse; for when they are waxed wanton against Christ, they want to marry; Having condemnation, because they have rejected their first faith. And withal they learn to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers and busy bodies, speaking what they ought not.read more.
I counsel therefore the younger women to marry, bear children, guide the family, give no occasion of reproach to the adversary.

Now concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord: but I give my judgment, as one who hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. I apprehend therefore, that this is good for the present distress, that it is good for a man to continue as he is. Art thou bound to a wife? seek not to be loosed: art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.read more.

The unmarried man careth for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But the married careth for the things of the world, how he may please his wife. There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit: but the married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.read more.
