When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water. The LORD delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the LORD spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. He gave to Moses, when he finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets, written with God's finger.

They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings. He wrote there on the stones a copy of the Law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.

The LORD answered me, "Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it.

Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever.

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, "His name is John." And they were all amazed.
