'Death' in the Bible
For there is no mention of You in death;In Sheol who will give You thanks?
Be gracious to me, O Lord;See my affliction from those who hate me,You who lift me up from the gates of death,
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
The cords of death encompassed me,And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me.
The cords of Sheol surrounded me;The snares of death confronted me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;And You lay me in the dust of death.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I fear no evil, for You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
To deliver their soul from deathAnd to keep them alive in famine.
Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackalsAnd covered us with the shadow of death.
For such is God,Our God forever and ever;He will guide us until death.
As sheep they are appointed for Sheol;Death shall be their shepherd;And the upright shall rule over them in the morning,And their form shall be for Sheol to consumeSo that they have no habitation.
My heart is in anguish within me,And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Let death come deceitfully upon them;Let them go down alive to Sheol,For evil is in their dwelling, in their midst.
For You have delivered my soul from death,Indeed my feet from stumbling,So that I may walk before GodIn the light of the living.
God is to us a God of deliverances;And to God the Lord belong escapes from death.
For there are no pains in their death,And their body is fat.
He leveled a path for His anger;He did not spare their soul from death,But gave over their life to the plague,
What man can live and not see death?Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.
They band themselves together against the life of the righteousAnd condemn the innocent to death.
To hear the groaning of the prisoner,To set free those who were doomed to death,
There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death,Prisoners in misery and chains,
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of deathAnd broke their bands apart.
Their soul abhorred all kinds of food,And they drew near to the gates of death.
Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness,But persecuted the afflicted and needy man,And the despondent in heart, to put them to death.
The cords of death encompassed meAnd the terrors of Sheol came upon me;I found distress and sorrow.
For You have rescued my soul from death,My eyes from tears,My feet from stumbling.
Precious in the sight of the LordIs the death of His godly ones.
The Lord has disciplined me severely,But He has not given me over to death.
