'Death' in the Bible
He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
“The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light,And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death,Upon them a Light dawned.”
“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
Although Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they regarded John as a prophet.
For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death.’
“Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,
Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”
Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death.
what do you think?” They answered, “He deserves death!”
Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;
But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death.
and *implored Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live.”
Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so;
For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, is to be put to death’;
And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.

And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”
But you will be betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death,
The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.
But he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!”
No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.
And he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”
Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him.
When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death.”
The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste of death.’
But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.”
Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep.
But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also;
But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.
So Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death,”
to fulfill the word of Jesus which He spoke, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.
Now this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He *said to him, “Follow Me!”
this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.
But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses.
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.
Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death.And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.
but their plot became known to Saul. They were also watching the gates day and night so that they might put him to death;
And he was talking and arguing with the Hellenistic Jews; but they were attempting to put him to death.
We are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross.
And he had James the brother of John put to death with a sword.
And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.
I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and putting both men and women into prisons,
and I found him to be accused over questions about their Law, but under no accusation deserving death or imprisonment.
If, then, I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die; but if none of those things is true of which these men accuse me, no one can hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar.”
But I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death; and since he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.
And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I cast my vote against them.
For this reason some Jews seized me in the temple and tried to put me to death.
and when they had gone aside, they began talking to one another, saying, “This man is not doing anything worthy of death or imprisonment.”
And when they had examined me, they were willing to release me because there was no ground for putting me to death.
and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.
and this commandment, which was to result in life, proved to result in death for me;
Therefore did that which is good become a cause of death for me? May it never be! Rather it was sin, in order that it might be shown to be sin by effecting my death through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Just as it is written,“For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you,
For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;
who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us,
to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?
But if the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,
For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
So death works in us, but life in you.
as unknown yet well-known, as dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put to death,
For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
