'Fathers' in the Bible

But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

And Jehovah said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

that ye shall say, Thy servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.

And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

but when I sleep with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying-place. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.

And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath fed me all my life long unto this day,

the angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God will be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them?

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, hath appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and'seen that which is done to you in Egypt:

That they may believe that Jehovah, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

These are the heads of their fathers houses. The sons of Reuben the first-born of Israel: Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers houses of the Levites according to their families.

and thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers houses, a lamb for a household:

keeping lovingkindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty , visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

then shall he go out from thee, he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary unto me,

Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, every male, by their polls;

And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of his fathers house.

These are they that were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls.

And the children of Reuben, Israel's first-born, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, those that were numbered thereof, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Joseph, namely , of the children of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

These are they that were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers house.

So all they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers houses, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

The children of Israel shall encamp every man by his own standard, with the ensigns of their fathers houses: over against the tent of meeting shall they encamp round about.

These are they that were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers houses: all that were numbered of the camps according to their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

Thus did the children of Israel; according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so they encamped by their standards, and so they set forward, every one by their families, according to their fathers houses.

Number the children of Levi by their fathers houses, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them.

And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers houses.

And the prince of the fathers house of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.

And the prince of the fathers house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

And the prince of the fathers house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail: they shall encamp on the side of the tabernacle northward.

Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families, by their fathers houses,

Take the sum of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers houses, by their families;

As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them by their families, by their fathers houses;

And Moses and Aaron and the princes of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families, and by their fathers houses,

And those that were numbered of the sons of Gershon, their families, and by their fathers houses,

even those that were numbered of them, by their families, by their fathers houses, were two thousand and six hundred and thirty.

And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, by their fathers houses,

All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the princes of Israel numbered, by their families, and by their fathers houses,

that the princes of Israel, the heads of their fathers houses, offered. These were the princes of the tribes, these are they that were over them that were numbered:

Have I conceived all this people? have I brought them forth, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing-father carrieth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.

Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; and that will by no means clear the guilty , visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised me see it:

Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers house, of all their princes according to their fathers houses, twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod.

And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers houses.

And Moses spake unto the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

And Jehovah said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy fathers house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary; and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.

how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers:

Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers house among the Simeonites.

for the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their fathers houses, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to their fathers houses, have received, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received, their inheritance:

And the heads of the fathers houses of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the heads of the fathers houses of the children of Israel:

And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will it be taken away from the lot of our inheritance.

And when the jubilee of the children of Israel shall be, then will their inheritance be added unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall cleave every one to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may possess every man the inheritance of his fathers.

Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

Jehovah, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!

Behold, Jehovah thy God hath set the land before thee: go up, take possession, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath spoken unto thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.

Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see the good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,

And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, giveth you.

for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God; he will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

Jehovah made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee, great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not,

And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of Jehovah; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers,

and he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

but because Jehovah loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath Jehovah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

And it shall come to pass, because ye hearken to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Jehovah thy God will keep with thee the covenant and the lovingkindness which he sware unto thy fathers:
