'Honor' in the Bible

In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.

At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth [I openly and joyfully acknowledge Your great wisdom], that You have hidden these things [these spiritual truths] from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants [to new believers, to those seeking God’s will and purpose].

And they were offended by Him.But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his household.”

But Jesus told them, "A prophet is without honor only in his hometown and in his own home." He did not perform many miracles there because of their unbelief.

For God said:Honor your father and your mother; and,The one who speaks evil of father or mothermust be put to death.

But you say, ‘If anyone says to his father or mother, “Whatever [money or resource that] I have that would help you is [already dedicated and] given to God,”

he does not have to honor his father.’ In this way, you have revoked God’s word because of your tradition.

These people honor Me with their lips,but their heart is far from Me.

honor your father and your mother;and love your neighbor as yourself.

They love the place of honor at banquets, the front seats in the synagogues,

and to be greeted [with respect] in the market places and public forums, and to have people call them Rabbi.

Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be raised to honor.
