'Hands' in the Bible

“So when you spread out your hands [in prayer, pleading for My help],I will hide My eyes from you;Yes, even though you offer many prayers,I will not be listening.Your hands are full of blood!

Most certainly [Lord] You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob,Because they are filled with influences from the east,And they are soothsayers [who foretell] like the Philistines;Also they strike bargains with the children of foreigners (pagans).

Their land has also been filled with idols;They worship the work of their hands,That which their own fingers have made.

Woe (judgment is coming) to the wicked! It shall go badly with him,For what his hand has done shall be done to him.

They have lyre and harp, tambourine and flute, and wine at their feasts;But they do not regard nor even pay attention to the deeds of the Lord,Nor do they consider the work of His hands.

Ephraim and Judah will [unite and] swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines toward the west;Together they will plunder the sons (Arabs) of the east.They will possess Edom and Moab,And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

Therefore all hands will fall limp,And every man’s heart will melt.

And he will not have regard for the [idolatrous] altars, the work of his hands,Nor will he look to that which his fingers have made,Neither the Asherim (symbols of the goddess Asherah) nor the incense altars.

whom the Lord of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My heritage.”

And Moab will spread out his hands in the middle of the filthAs a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim,But the Lord will humiliate his pride in spite of the [skillful] movements of his hands.

For when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst,They will sanctify My Name;They will sanctify the Holy One of JacobAnd will stand in awe and reverent fear of the God of Israel.

For in that day every man will reject and throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold [in disgust], which your own hands have sinfully made for you.

Encourage the exhausted, and make staggering knees firm.

and have cast the gods [of those peoples] into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

“Present your case [for idols made by men’s hands],” says the Lord.“Produce your evidence [of divinity],”Says the king of Jacob.

Then it becomes fuel for a man to burn, so he takes one of them and warms himself; he also kindles a fire to bake bread. He also makes a god [from the same wood] and worships it. He makes it into a carved idol [with his own hands] and falls down and worships it!

For the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker says this,“Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons,And give Me orders concerning the work of My hands.

“I made the earth and created man upon it.My hands, stretched out the heavens,And I commanded all their host.

“Indeed, I have inscribed [a picture of] you on the palms of My hands;Your city walls [Zion] are continually before Me.

“I will put it into the hands of your tormentors,Who have said to you, ‘Lie down so that we may walk over you.’You have even made your back like the groundAnd like the street for those who walk over it.”

“For you will go out [from exile] with joyAnd be led forth [by the Lord Himself] with peace;The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

For your hands are defiled with bloodAnd your fingers with wickedness [with sin, with injustice, with wrongdoing];Your lips have spoken lies,Your tongue mutters wickedness.

Their webs will not serve as clothing,Nor will they cover themselves with what they make;Their works are works of wickedness [of sin, of injustice, of wrongdoing],And the act of violence is in their hands.

“Then all your people will be [uncompromisingly and consistently] righteous;They will possess the land forever,The branch of My planting,The work of My hands,That I may be glorified.

“I have spread out My hands all the day long to a rebellious and stubborn people,Who walk in the way that is not good, [following] after their own thoughts and intentions,

“They will not build and another occupy;They will not plant and another eat [the fruit].For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people,And My chosen [people] will fully enjoy [and long make use of] the work of their hands.
