'High Priest' in the Bible

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people met together in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

But one of those with Jesus grabbed his sword, drew it out, and struck the high priest's slave, cutting off his ear.

Now the ones who had arrested Jesus led him to Caiaphas, the high priest, in whose house the experts in the law and the elders had gathered.

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest's courtyard. After going in, he sat with the guards to see the outcome.

So the high priest stood up and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?"

But Jesus was silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

Then the high priest tore his clothes and declared, "He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Now you have heard the blasphemy!

Then they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests and elders and experts in the law came together.

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest's courtyard. He was sitting with the guards and warming himself by the fire.

Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?"

Now while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest's slave girls came by.

during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

Then one of them struck the high priest's slave, cutting off his right ear.

Then they arrested Jesus, led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter was following at a distance.

Then one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, "You know nothing at all!

(Now he did not say this on his own, but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation,

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, pulled it out and struck the high priest's slave, cutting off his right ear. (Now the slave's name was Malchus.)

They brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

Simon Peter and another disciple followed them as they brought Jesus to Annas. (Now the other disciple was acquainted with the high priest, and he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard.)

But Simon Peter was left standing outside by the door. So the other disciple who was acquainted with the high priest came out and spoke to the slave girl who watched the door, and brought Peter inside.

While this was happening, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.

When Jesus had said this, one of the high priest's officers who stood nearby struck him on the face and said, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?"

Then Annas sent him, still tied up, to Caiaphas the high priest.

One of the high priest's slaves, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the orchard with him?"

Then they shouted out, "Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!" Pilate asked, "Shall I crucify your king?" The high priests replied, "We have no king except Caesar!"

Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest's family.

When they were released, Peter and John went to their fellow believers and reported everything the high priests and the elders had said to them.

Now the high priest rose up, and all those with him (that is, the religious party of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.

When they heard this, they entered the temple courts at daybreak and began teaching. Now when the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they summoned the Sanhedrin -- that is, the whole high council of the Israelites -- and sent to the jail to have the apostles brought before them.

When they had brought them, they stood them before the council, and the high priest questioned them,

Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats to murder the Lord's disciples, went to the high priest

For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. So this one too had to have something to offer.

But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,

And he did not enter to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the sanctuary year after year with blood that is not his own,

For the bodies of those animals whose blood the high priest brings into the sanctuary as an offering for sin are burned outside the camp.
