You will not die, the serpent said to the woman. God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened. Then you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
The great dragon was thrown down, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was hurled down to the earth, and his angels with him.
Satan answered Jehovah: Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life. But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones and he will curse you to your face!
Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down upon your anger (rage). Do not give the devil an opportunity.
For this cause, when I could no longer bear it, I inquired about your faith. I feared that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.
He must have a good reputation with those outside the congregation, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the Devil.
They should come to their senses out of the snare of the Devil. He has taken them captive and they do his will.
Peter said: Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the money from the land sale? While it remained, was it not your own? The young men arose, covered him up, and carried him out, and buried him. About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. Peter said to her: Tell me whether you sold the land for such a price? And she said: Yes, we did. Then Peter said: How is it that you have agreed together to put Jehovah's Spirit to the test? Look, those who buried your husband are at the door to carry you out.
In their heart they put God to the test by asking food according to their desire.
They had an unreasonable desire for food in the wilderness. In the desert they tested God.
Why do you test God by placing a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, one that our fathers were not able to bear?
Peter said: Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the money from the land sale?
Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent for a time. That way you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer. Then come together again, that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling. Some have already turned aside after Satan.
Whoever you forgive, I also forgive. What I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, for your sakes I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ, that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
If you have bitter jealousy (envy) and greedy ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and lie against the truth. This wisdom is not a wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and devilish. For where jealousy and selfishness are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
God's Spirit led Jesus into the desert wilderness. There he was tested (tempted) by the Devil. He fasted forty days and nights, and was very hungry. Satan, the Tempter, said to him: If (since) you are the Son of God order these stones to turn into bread.read more.
In reply Jesus answered: It is written; man shall not live on bread alone, but on all (everything) (every word) (every utterance) (every declaration) that proceeds from the mouth of Jehovah. (Deuteronomy 8:3) Then the Devil took him into the holy city and had him stand on top of the Temple. If (since) you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. The Scriptures say: 'God will give orders to his angels about you and they will hold you with their hands, so that not even your feet will strike the ground.' Again it is written, Jesus replied, 'you must not put Jehovah your God to the test.' (Deuteronomy 6:16) This time the Devil took Jesus to an extremely high mountain. He showed him all the kingdoms of the world with all their greatness. I will give all this to you, the Devil told Jesus, if you kneel down and worship me. Go away, Satan! demanded Jesus. It is written, It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.' (Deuteronomy 6:13-15) Then the Devil left Jesus, and the angels came and served him.
Jesus was full of God's Holy Spirit when he returned from the Jordan. Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness. He spent forty days in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. He did not eat anything during those days so when it was over he was hungry. The devil said to him: If you are the Son of God command this stone to become bread.read more.
Jesus answered him: It is written, man shall not live by bread alone. (Deuteronomy 8:3) He led him up to a high place and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. Then the devil said: I will give all this authority and glory to you, for it has been turned over to me. I may give it to whomever I will. If you will worship me it will all be yours. Jesus answered: It is written, you shall worship Jehovah your God and him only shall you serve. (Deuteronomy 6:13-15; 10:12; 10:20) (Exodus 20:3-5) He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle (highest level) of the temple. Then he said to him: If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here. It is written, he shall give his angels charge concerning you to guard you. They will carry you with their hands so you do not dash your foot against a stone. Jesus replied: It is said you should not test Jehovah your God. (Deuteronomy 6:16) When the devil had completed every temptation he departed from him for a season.
He turned to Peter and said: Get behind me, Satan. You are a stumbling block to me. You think the things of men, not of God.
He turned around and looked at his disciples. Then he rebuked Peter saying: Get behind me Satan for you do not pay attention to the things of God. You tend to the things of men.
We do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our infirmities (weaknesses). He was tested in all things like ourselves. Yet he was without sin!
You put all things in subjection under his feet. You subjected all things to him and left nothing that is not subject to him. Now we do not see yet all things in subjection to him.
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil (false accuser) (Devil) is about to throw you into prison, that you may be tested. You will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful even if you must die, and I will give you the crown of life.
Because you have kept the word of my patience (endurance), I also will keep you from the hour of testing. This will come upon the whole world to test (scrutinize) (discipline) (examine) those who dwell on the earth.
Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about, seeking whom he may devour (consume).
Watch and pray continually that you do not enter into temptation!
When he arrived he said to them: Pray that you do not enter into temptation.

Forgive us our sins. For we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And keep us from temptation.
I prayed for you that your faith would not fail. Once you have turned again strengthen your brothers.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. God is faithful and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your limits. He will make a way out, that you will be able to endure it.
Jehovah knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to preserve the unrighteous for the Day of Judgment. (Psalm 34:19) (Matthew 25:46)
Since he has suffered and was tested in every way; he is able to help those who are being tested.
