Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

He sendeth his word, and healeth them, And delivereth them from their destructions. Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare his works with singing. They that go down to the sea in ships, That do business in great waters; These see the works of Jehovah, And his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, Which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths: Their soul melteth away because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits end. Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, And he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, So that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they are quiet; So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Jehovah hath chastened me sore; But he hath not given me over unto death.
Jehovah, in trouble have they visited thee; they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.
Therefore he poured upon him the fierceness of his anger, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made. Stripes that wound cleanse away evil; And strokes reach the innermost parts.
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.
