But Jesus, knowing what passed, said to them, Why do ye give the woman uneasiness? for she has done a good office to me:
And when Jesus heard these things, He marvelled, and turning about, said to the multitude that followed Him, I declare unto you, I have not found so great faith, no not in Israel.
Then Jesus answering, said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it therefore unto thee as thou desirest. And her daughter was cured from that very hour.
And Jesus replied and said unto him, Blessed art thou Simon son of Jonas, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I also say unto thee, as thou art called Peter, so upon this rock, which thou hast confessed, will I build my church, and the gates of death shall not prevail against it.
And He said, Verily I tell you, this poor widow hath put in more than they all.
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God bearing witness to his gifts: and by it, though dead, he yet speaketh.
By faith Enoch was translated, that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God:
Now faith is the confident expectation of things hoped for, and a conviction of things not seen: for by it the ancients obtained an honorable testimony.
Then will the king say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
that in these serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved by men.
And we have sent along with him the brother, whose praise in the gospel is spread through all the churches:
And these all, though they obtained an honorable testimony by faith, yet received not the promise;
Happy is the man who sustaineth temptation; for being approved he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.
Behold, we account those happy, that are patient. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
for this is an evidence of grace, if any one for conscience towards God endure griefs, suffering unjustly. For what glory is it, if when ye sin and are punished for it, ye bear it patiently? but if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this will gain favor with God.
For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commendeth.
And his master commended the dishonest steward as having acted prudently: for the men of this world are as to their affairs wiser than the children of light.
And as he was inclined to go into Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples exhorting them to receive him: who when he arrived, was very helpful to those who had believed through grace.
nor is that circumcision, which is only in appearance, in the flesh;
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wouldest thou then not be afraid of the civil power? do what is good, and thou shalt have praise from it:
Now I commend you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
Do we begin again to recommend ourselves? or do we need, as some do, recommendatory epistles to you, or letters of recommendation from you?
Am I become vain in boasting? ye have forced me to it: for I ought to have been recommended by you, as I have in nothing fallen short of the very chiefest of the apostles, though in myself I am nothing.
nor sought we glory of men, neither of you, nor of others: though we might have expected maintenance, as the apostles of Christ.
or to governors as persons sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and the praise of them that do well.
for we are not again recommending ourselves to you, but giving you an occasion of glorying on our account; that ye may have somewhat to answer those who glory in appearance, and not in heart.
but in every thing approving ourselves as the ministers of God; by much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in straits, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the holy Spirit,read more.
by love unfeigned, by the word of truth, by the power of God, with the armour of righteousness on the right and on the left; through honor and dishonor, through evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, but not put to death; as sorrowing, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.
