And there shall be signs in the sun, and moon, and stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea roaring and tossing: Men fainting away for fear, and expectation of the things coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
And they alarmed the multitude and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
Some therefore cried one thing, and some another; for the assembly was confused, and the greater part did not know, for what they were come together.
For the doctrine of the cross is indeed to them that perish foolishness; but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit; for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
But if our gospel also is veiled, it is veiled to them that perish; Whose unbelieving minds the god of this world hath blinded, lest the illumination of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine upon them.
The Jews then debated among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were confounded, because every man heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
And the multitude were amazed and said, Is not this the Son of David? But the Pharisees hearing it said, This fellow casteth not out devils but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
But the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him. And he was perplexed, because it was said by some, That John was risen from the dead; and by some that Elijah had appeared; by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. And Herod said, John have I beheaded; but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus, And said to his servants, This is John the Baptist: he is risen from the dead, and therefore these mighty powers exert themselves in him.
And king Herod heard (for his name was spread abroad) and he said, John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore divine powers exert themselves in him. Others said, It is Elijah: and others said, It is a prophet, as one of the prophets. But Herod hearing thereof, said, This is that John whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
Nicodemus saith to him, How can a man be born, when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What can this mean?
But their understandings were blinded: and until this day the same veil remaineth unremoved on the reading of the old testament, which is taken away in Christ.
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and seas obey him?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
And he said to them, Where is your faith? But they were afraid and wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this? For he commandeth even the winds and the water, and they obey him.
Take heed therefore to yourselves and to the whole flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Yea, from among yourselves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
And a servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle toward all men, apt to teach, patient of evil, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if haply God may give them repentance, to the acknowledging of the truth;
be instant in season, out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching. For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine, but will heap to themselves teachers, according to their own desires, having itching ears.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves; for they watch over your souls, as they that must give account; that they may do this with joy, and not with groans: for that is unprofitable for you.
All scripture is inspired of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness;
Till we all come to the unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we may be no longer children, fluctuating to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the slight of men, by cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive:
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more, in all knowledge and in all spiritual sense, That ye may try the things that are excellent, that ye may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ,
But strong meat belongeth to them of full age, to them who have their senses exercised by habit to discern both good and evil.
And Peter answering faith to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. For he knew not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
Then answered Peter and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

While he spake thus, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they feared while they entered into the cloud.

Then he said to them, O foolish, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
Then some of his disciples said to each other, What is this that he said to us? A little while and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while and ye shall see me? and, Because I go to the Father? They said therefore, What is this little while that he speaketh of? We understand not what he saith. Jesus knew they were desirous to ask him, and said to them, Ye inquire among you of this, that I said, A little while and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while and ye shall see me.
For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side: from without were fightings, from within were fears.
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, till Christ be formed in you, I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Christ who called you by his grace to another gospel, Which is not another; but there are some that trouble you, and would subvert the gospel of Christ.
But now having known God, or rather being known of God, how turn ye back to the weak and beggarly elements, to which ye desire to be in bondage again?
I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be no otherwise minded; but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
If any of you want wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.
the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.
But when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear, he will speak; and he will shew you things to come.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor hath ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them to us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, even the deep things of God.
