Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard; go, make it as secure as ye can. So they went and secured the sepulchre, sealing the stone, and setting a guard.
And he went and talked with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him to them.
And the centurion and they that were with him, guarding Jesus, seeing the earthquake and the things that were done, feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
And there were in the same country shepherds, lying out in the field, and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, who were come to him, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and clubs?
And as they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple,
(Then were the days of unleavened bread.) Whom having apprehended, he put in prison, delivering him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him forth to the people after the passover.
And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by and consenting to his death, and kept the garments of them that slew him.
And being informed, that he was of Cilicia, I will give thee, said he, a thorough hearing, when thy accusers also are come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's palace.
And he commanded the centurion to keep Paul, and let him have liberty, and to hinder none of his friends from assisting or coming to him.
And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with the soldier that kept him.
So that my bonds in Christ have been made manifest in the whole palace, and to all others:
For if ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for I have begotten you in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Take heed to thyself and to thy teaching: continue in them, for in so doing thou shalt save both thyself and them that hear thee.
And Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Saducees.
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, acquit yourselves like men; be strong.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Ye, therefore, beloved, knowing these things before, beware, lest ye also being led away by the error of the wicked fall from your own stedfastness:
Behold we put bits into the horses mouths, that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, tho' they are so great, and driven by fierce winds, yet are turned about by a very small helm, whithersoever the pilot listeth. So the tongue also is a little member, yet boasteth great things. Behold how much matter a little fire kindleth.read more.
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: it is the tongue among the members which defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell. For every kind both of wild beasts and of birds, both of reptiles and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind. But the tongue can no man tame: it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
The good thing which is committed to thee keep, through the Holy Spirit, who dwelleth in us.
Yea, from among yourselves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, I ceased not to warn every one, night and day, with tears.
O Timotheus, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding prophane, empty babblings, and oppositions of knowledge falsely so called: Which some professing have erred from the faith.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil; the Lord will reward him according to his works. Of whom be thou also aware; for he hath greatly withstood our words.
Take heed therefore to yourselves and to the whole flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, I ceased not to warn every one, night and day, with tears.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves; for they watch over your souls, as they that must give account; that they may do this with joy, and not with groans: for that is unprofitable for you.
Feed the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it not by constraint, but willingly, not for filthy gain, but of a ready mind,
