But without faith it is impossible to be acceptable; for he must believe, who cometh unto God, that he exists, and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
who by him believe in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
LET not your hearts be troubled: trust in God, and trust in me.

NOW faith is the realizing confidence of the things hoped for, and the demonstration of things unseen:
And not being weak in faith, he regarded not his own body now deadened, being about an hundred years old, nor the deadness of Sarah's womb: for he disputed not against the promise of God with unbelief; but was mighty in faith, giving glory to God; and enjoyed the fullest assurance, that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
For they who discharge the office of a deacon with propriety, acquire to themselves a respectable station [in the church], and great boldness in the faith which is in Jesus Christ.
let us come to him with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and the body washed with pure water:
Then immediately Jesus stretching out his hand, laid hold on him, and said to him, O thou of little faith, wherefore dost thou doubt?

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, the twin, was not with them when Jesus came. Then the other disciples said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Except I should see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I shall never believe it. And eight days after, his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them: Jesus cometh, though the doors were fastened, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.read more.
Afterwards he spake to Thomas, Bring hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and take thy hand, and thrust into my side: and be not incredulous, but a believer. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God!
Jesus saith to him, Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, hast thou believed: blessed are they who though they have not seen me, yet have believed.
whilst we direct our aim not to the things which are seen, but to the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal.

By faith we understand that the worlds were exactly formed by the word of God, so that the visible objects were not made out of things which now appear.
All these died in faith, not having received the promises, but beholding them at a great distance, though believing and embracing them, and confessing that they were strangers and sojourners in the land. Now they who speak thus, shew evidently that they are in earnest search of their native country.

So also faith, if it hath not works, is dead itself. Perhaps a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee by my works my faith. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith consummated. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness;" and he was called "the friend of God." Observe therefore that by works a man is justified, and not by faith merely. But was not Rahab the harlot in like manner justified by works, when she entertained the messengers, and sent them away by a different road? For as the body without breath is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Yea, and should I become the victim, in the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
without ceasing calling to mind your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine: so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, this person beareth much fruit: because without me ye can do nothing.
