If ye be railed upon for the name of Christ; happy are ye. For the spirit of glory and the spirit of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of: but on your part he is glorified.

Blessed are ye when men hate you, and thrust you out of their company, and rail on you, and abhor your name, as an evil thing, for the son of man's sake.

and esteemed the rebuke of Christ greater riches, than the treasure of Egypt. For he had a respect unto the reward.

For therefore we labour and suffer rebuke, because we believe in the living God, which is the saviour of all men: but specially of those that believe.

partly while all men wondered and gazed at you for the shame and tribulation that was done unto you, and partly while ye became companions of them which so passed their time.

Howbeit, because in doing this deed thou hast given the enemies of the LORD a cause to rail, the child that is born thee shall die surely."

Also I said, "It is not good, that ye do. Ought ye not to walk in the fear of God because of the rebuke of the Heathen our enemies?

Thou abhorrest images: and robbest God of his honour. Thou rejoicest in the law: and through breaking the law dishonourest God. For the name of God is evil spoken-of among the gentiles, through you, as it is written.

Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy rebuketh, and how the foolish people blaspheme thy name.

Whoso laugheth the poor to scorn, blasphemeth his maker; and he that is glad of another man's hurt, shall not be unpunished.

For Christ pleased not himself: but as it is written, "The rebukes of them which rebuked thee, fell on me."

They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; they that are mine enemies, and would destroy me guiltless, are mighty. I paid them the things that I never took. God, thou knowest my simpleness, and my faults are not hid from thee. Let not them that trust in thee, O LORD God of hosts, be ashamed for my cause; let not those that seek thee, be confounded through me, O LORD God of Israel. And why? For thy sake have I suffered reproof; shame hath covered my face. I am become a stranger unto my brethren, even an alien unto my mother's children. For the zeal of thine house hath even eaten me; and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee is fallen upon me.

He that hurteth his father or shutteth out his mother, is a shameful and an unworthy son.

Righteousness setteth up the people; but wickedness bringeth folk to destruction.

Cast out the scornful man, and so shall strife go out with him; yea, variance and slander shall cease.

Where ungodliness is, there is also disdain; and so there followeth shame and dishonour.
