David's Last Days

11 Now King David was old, advanced in age; and they covered him with clothes, but he could not keep warm.

11 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

11 Now King David was old and getting on in years. Although they covered him with bedclothes, he could not get warm.

11 When David had grown very old, they covered him with blankets, but he could not keep warm,

11 And King David was old and advanced in years; they covered him with [bed]clothes, but he could not get warm.

22 So his servants said to him, "Let them seek a young virgin for my lord the king, and let her attend the king and become his nurse; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm."

22 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.

22 So his servants said to him: "Let us search for a young virgin for my lord the king. She is to attend the king and be his caregiver. She is to lie by your side so that my lord the king will get warm."

22 so his servants suggested to him, "Let's look for a young virgin woman to take care of you, your majesty. She will be of use to you if you have her lie down near you so that your majesty may keep warm."

22 So his servants [the physicians] said to him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her wait on and be useful to the king; let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may get warm.

33 So they searched for a beautiful girl throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

33 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

33 They searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel; they found Abishag the Shunammite and brought her to the king.

33 So they conducted a search throughout the territory of Israel for a beautiful young woman, and Abishag the Shunammite was located and brought to the king.

33 So they sought a fair maiden through all the territory of Israel and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

44 The girl was very beautiful; and she became the king's nurse and served him, but the king did not cohabit with her.

44 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

44 The girl was of unsurpassed beauty, and she became the king's caregiver. She served him, but he was not intimate with her.

44 The young woman was absolutely beautiful. She served the king and was very useful to him. The king was not sexually involved with her.

44 The maiden was beautiful; and she waited on and nursed him. But the king had no intercourse with her.

Adonijah Seeks David's Throne

55 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king " So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen with fifty men to run before him.

55 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

55 Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying, "I will be king!" He also assembled chariots, cavalry, and 50 men to run ahead of him.

55 Meanwhile, about this time Haggith's son Adonijah began to seek a reputation for himself and decided, "I'm going to be king!" So he prepared chariots, cavalry, and 50 soldiers to serve as a security detail to guard him.

55 Then Adonijah son of [David's wife] Haggith exalted himself, saying, I [the eldest living son] will be king. And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, with fifty men to run before him.

66 His father had never crossed him at any time by asking, "Why have you done so?" And he was also a very handsome man, and he was born after Absalom.

66 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.

66 But his father had never once reprimanded him by saying, "Why do you act this way?" In addition, he was quite handsome and was born after Absalom.

66 His father had never challenged him at any time during his life by asking him, "Why are you acting like this?" Adonijah was very handsome and had been born after Absalom.

66 David his father had never in his life displeased him by asking, Why have you done so? He was also a very attractive man and was born after Absalom.

77 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.

77 He conspired with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest. They supported Adonijah,

88 but Zadok the priest, Jehoiada's son Benaiah, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David's personal elite forces would have nothing to do with Adonijah.

88 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David's mighty men did not side with Adonijah.

99 Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants.

99 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

99 Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fattened cattle near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah, the servants of the king,

99 Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fatted cattle by the Serpent Stone near En-rogel, inviting all of his relatives, the king's sons, and all of the men of Judah who worked for the king,

1010 But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

1010 But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

1010 but he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the warriors, or his brother Solomon.

1010 but he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, David's personal elite forces, or his brother Solomon.

1010 But Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, and Solomon his brother he did not invite.

Solomon's Intercessors

1111 Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?

1111 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?

1111 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, "Have you not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith has become king and our lord David does not know [it]?

1111 "Haven't you heard?" Nathan asked Solomon's mother Bathsheba. "Haggith's son Adonijah has become king and David, our true king, isn't aware of it.

1111 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, reigns and David our lord does not know it?

1212 "So now come, please let me give you counsel and save your life and the life of your son Solomon.

1212 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

1212 Now please come and let me advise you. Save your life and the life of your son Solomon.

1212 If you listen to me, you'll save your life and the life of your son Solomon.

1212 Come now, let me advise you how to save your own life and your son Solomon's.

1313 "Go at once to King David and say to him, 'Have you not, my lord, O king, sworn to your maidservant, saying, "Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Why then has Adonijah become king?'

1313 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?

1313 Go, approach King David and say to him, 'My lord king, did you not swear to your servant: Your son Solomon is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne? So why has Adonijah become king?'

1313 Go right now to King David and ask him, "Your majesty, you promised your servant that "Your son Solomon will certainly become king after me and will sit on my throne," didn't you? So why has Adonijah become king?'

1313 Go to King David and say, Did you not, my lord, O king, swear to your handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? Why then does Adonijah reign?

1414 "Behold, while you are still there speaking with the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words."

1414 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

1414 At that moment, while you are still there speaking with the king, I'll come in after you and confirm your words."

1414 Then, while you are still talking to the king, I'll come in after you and verify your statement."

1414 Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words.

1515 So Bathsheba went in to the king in the bedroom. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king.

1515 And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

1515 So Bathsheba went to the king in his bedroom. Since the king was very old, Abishag the Shunammite was serving him.

1515 So Bathsheba went to the king in his private room. Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was attending to him.

1515 So Bathsheba went in to the king in his chamber. Now the king was very old and feeble, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to [him].

1616 Then Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king. And the king said, "What do you wish?"

1616 And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

1616 Bathsheba bowed down and paid homage to the king, and he asked, "What do you want?"

1616 Bathsheba knelt and bowed down to the king, and the king asked her, "What do you wish?"

1616 Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king. The king said, What do you wish?

1717 She said to him, "My lord, you swore to your maidservant by the LORD your God, saying, 'Surely your son Solomon shall be king after me and he shall sit on my throne.'

1717 And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

1717 She replied, "My lord, you swore to your servant by the Lord your God, 'Your son Solomon is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne.'

1717 "Your majesty," she replied, "you promised your servant in the name of the LORD your God, "Your son Solomon will certainly become king after me and will sit on my throne.'

1717 And she said to him, My lord, you swore by the Lord your God to your handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me and sit upon my throne.

1818 "Now, behold, Adonijah is king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know it.

1818 And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:

1818 Now look, Adonijah has become king. And, my lord king, you didn't know [it].

1818 Now look, Adonijah has become king, and your majesty is not aware of it.

1818 And now, behold, Adonijah is reigning, and, my lord the king, you do not know it.

1919 "He has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited Solomon your servant.

1919 And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

1919 He has lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the king's sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army, but he did not invite your servant Solomon.

1919 Adonijah has sacrificed myriads of oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep, and he has invited all of the king's sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army, but he has not invited your servant Solomon.

1919 He has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the army. But he did not invite Solomon your servant.

2020 "As for you now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

2020 And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

2020 Now, my lord king, the eyes of all Israel are on you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

2020 And as for you, your majesty, everyone in Israel is looking to you to tell them who will sit on your majesty's throne after you.

2020 Now, my lord O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after you.

2121 "Otherwise it will come about, as soon as my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered offenders."

2121 Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

2121 Otherwise, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, I and my son Solomon will be regarded as criminals."

2121 Otherwise, as soon as your majesty is laid to rest with his ancestors, my son Solomon and I will be branded as traitors."

2121 Otherwise, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, I and my son Solomon shall be counted as offenders.

2222 Behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

2222 And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

2222 At that moment, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived,

2222 While she was still talking to the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.

2222 While she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

2323 They told the king, saying, "Here is Nathan the prophet." And when he came in before the king, he prostrated himself before the king with his face to the ground.

2323 And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

2323 and it was announced to the king, "Nathan the prophet is here." He came into the king's presence and bowed to him with his face to the ground.

2323 They informed the king, "Nathan the prophet is here."

2323 The king was told, Here is Nathan the prophet. And when he came before the king, he bowed himself before him with his face to the ground.

2424 Then Nathan said, "My lord the king, have you said, 'Adonijah shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne'?

2424 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

2424 "My lord king," Nathan said, "did you say, 'Adonijah is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne?'

2424 When he had been ushered into the presence of the king, Nathan bowed low in front of the king with his face to the ground and asked, "Your majesty, did you say "Adonijah will be king after me and will sit on my throne'?

2424 And Nathan said, My lord the king, have you said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?

2525 "For he has gone down today and has sacrificed oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons and the commanders of the army and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him; and they say, 'Long live King Adonijah!'

2525 For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.

2525 For today he went down and lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And look! They're eating and drinking in his presence, and they're saying, 'Long live King Adonijah!'

2525 Well now, he went down today and sacrificed lots of oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep, and has invited all the king's sons, the army commanders, and Abiathar the priest. They're having a party together and saying, "Long live King Adonijah!'

2525 He has gone this day and sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and they eat and drink before him and say, Long live King Adonijah!

2626 "But me, even me your servant, and Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and your servant Solomon, he has not invited.

2626 But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.

2626 But he did not invite me-me, your servant-or Zadok the priest or Benaiah son of Jehoiada or your servant Solomon.

2626 Of course, he never invited me, Zadok the priest, Jehoiada's son Benaiah, nor your servant Solomon.

2626 But me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he has not invited.

2727 "Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?"

2727 Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

2727 I'm certain my lord the king would not have let this happen without letting your servant know who will sit on my lord the king's throne after him."

2727 Were you behind this, your majesty, without letting your servants know who would sit on your majesty's throne after him?"

2727 Is this done by my lord the king and you have not shown your servants who shall succeed my lord the king?

Solomon Confirmed King

2828 Then King David said, "Call Bathsheba to me." And she came into the king's presence and stood before the king.

2828 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

2828 King David responded by saying, "Call in Bathsheba for me." So she came into the king's presence and stood before him.

2828 "Call Bathsheba for me," King David replied. So she came in and stood in front of the king.

2828 Then King David answered, Call Bathsheba. And she came into the king's presence and stood before him.

2929 The king vowed and said, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all distress,

2929 And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

2929 The king swore an oath and said, "As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every difficulty,

2929 "As the LORD lives," the king said with an oath, "who has redeemed me from all sorts of troubles,

2929 And the king took an oath and said, As the Lord lives, Who has redeemed my soul out of all distress,

3030 surely as I vowed to you by the LORD the God of Israel, saying, 'Your son Solomon shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place'; I will indeed do so this day."

3030 Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

3030 just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel: Your son Solomon is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne in my place, that is exactly what I will do this very day."

3030 I certainly did tell you in the name of the LORD God of Israel, "Your son Solomon will be king after me and will sit on my throne in my place.' I'm certainly going to make this happen today!"

3030 Even as I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead -- "even so will I certainly do this day.

3131 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, and prostrated herself before the king and said, "May my lord King David live forever."

3131 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

3131 Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, paying homage to the king, and said, "May my lord King David live forever!"

3131 "King David," Bathsheba said as she bowed low in front of the king with her face to the ground, "your majesty, may you live forever."

3131 Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground and did obeisance to the king and said, Let my lord King David live forever!

Solomon Is Crowned King

3232 Then King David said, "Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada." And they came into the king's presence.

3232 And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

3232 King David then said, "Call in Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada for me." So they came into the king's presence.

3232 "Get me Zadok the priest," King David said, "along with Nathan the prophet, and Jehoiada's son Benaiah." So they were ushered into the king's presence

3232 King David said, Call Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

3333 The king said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

3333 The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:

3333 The king said to them, "Take my servants with you, have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and take him down to Gihon.

3333 and David addressed them. "Take your lord's servants, have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and take him down to Gihon.

3333 The king told them, Take the servants of your lord and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule and bring him down to Gihon [in the Kidron Valley].

3434 "Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and blow the trumpet and say, 'Long live King Solomon!'

3434 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.

3434 There, Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him as king over Israel. You are to blow the ram's horn and say, 'Long live King Solomon!'

3434 Have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel. Then sound a trumpet and declare "Long live King Solomon!'

3434 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. Then blow the trumpet and say, Long live King Solomon!

3535 "Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne and be king in my place; for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah."

3535 Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

3535 You are to come up after him, and he is to come in and sit on my throne. He is the one who is to become king in my place; he is the one I have commanded to be ruler over Israel and Judah."

3535 After this, you are to follow him back here, and he is to come and sit on my throne and take my place as king, because I've appointed him to be Commander-in-Chief over Israel and Judah."

3535 Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, for he shall be king in my stead; I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.

3636 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, "Amen! Thus may the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say.

3636 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

3636 "Amen," Benaiah son of Jehoiada replied to the king. "May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, so affirm it.

3636 "Amen!" replied Jehoiada's son Benaiah to the king. "May the LORD God of your majesty make this happen!

3636 And Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, Amen! May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, say so too.

3737 "As the LORD has been with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David!"

3737 As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

3737 Just as the Lord was with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David."

3737 As the LORD has been with your majesty the king, so may he be with Solomon. May he make his throne greater than the throne of your majesty, King David."

3737 As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may He be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.

3838 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

3838 So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

3838 Then Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down, had Solomon ride on King David's mule, and took him to Gihon.

3838 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Jehoiada's son Benaiah, the special forces and mercenaries went out and had Solomon ride the king's mule all the way to Gihon.

3838 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites [the king's bodyguards] went down and caused Solomon to ride upon King David's mule and brought him to Gihon.

3939 Zadok the priest then took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, "Long live King Solomon!"

3939 And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.

3939 Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the ram's horn, and all the people proclaimed, "Long live King Solomon!"

3939 Zadok the priest brought from his tent a horn filled with oil and anointed Solomon, a trumpet was sounded, and everybody yelled out, "Long live King Solomon!"

3939 Zadok the priest took a horn of oil out of the tent and anointed Solomon. They blew the trumpet and all the people said, Long live King Solomon!

4040 All the people went up after him, and the people were playing on flutes and rejoicing with great joy, so that the earth shook at their noise.

4040 And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

4040 All the people followed him, playing flutes and rejoicing with such a great joy that the earth split open from the sound.

4040 All the people followed after him, playing on wind pipes and so full of joy that the earth shook because of all the noise!

4040 All the people followed him; they played on pipes and rejoiced greatly, so that the earth [resounded] with the joyful sound.

Adonijah's Response To The Coronation Of Solomon

4141 Now Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, "Why is the city making such an uproar?"

4141 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

4141 Adonijah and all the invited guests who were with him heard [the noise] as they finished eating. Joab heard the sound of the ram's horn and said, "Why is the town in such an uproar?"

4141 Right about then, Adonijah and all of his guests were just finishing their meal when they heard all the noise. "Why is the city in such an uproar?" Joab asked as he heard the trumpet sounds.

4141 And Adonijah and all the guests with him heard it as they finished feasting. When Joab heard the trumpet sound, he said, What does this uproar in the city mean?

4242 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came Then Adonijah said, "Come in, for you are a valiant man and bring good news."

4242 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.

4242 He was still speaking when Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest, suddenly arrived. Adonijah said, "Come in, for you are an excellent man, and you must be bringing good news."

4242 While he was still asking that question, Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest arrived, so Adonijah told him, "Come on in, since you're a worthy man and are bringing us good news!"

4242 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest came. And Adonijah said, Come in, for you are a trustworthy man and bring good news.

4343 But Jonathan replied to Adonijah, "No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king.

4343 And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.

4343 "Unfortunately not," Jonathan answered him. "Our lord King David has made Solomon king.

4343 "No," Jonathan answered. "Our lord King David has installed Solomon as king.

4343 Jonathan replied, Adonijah, truly our lord King David has made Solomon king!

4444 "The king has also sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king's mule.

4444 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

4444 And with Solomon, the king has sent Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have had him ride on the king's mule.

4444 The king has sent Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Jehoiada's son Benaiah, the special forces and mercenaries, along with Solomon, who is riding the king's personal mule.

4444 The king has sent him with Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule.

4545 "Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon, and they have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise which you have heard.

4545 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

4545 Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon. They have gone from there rejoicing. The town has been in an uproar; that's the noise you heard.

4545 Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him in Gihon, and they just left from there rejoicing, and that's why the city is all in an uproar. That's the noise that you've been hearing!

4545 Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon; they have come up from there rejoicing, so the city resounds. This is the noise you heard.

4646 "Besides, Solomon has even taken his seat on the throne of the kingdom.

4646 And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

4646 Solomon has even taken his seat on the royal throne.

4646 Solomon now sits on the royal throne.

4646 Solomon sits on the royal throne.

4747 "Moreover, the king's servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, 'May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name and his throne greater than your throne!' And the king bowed himself on the bed.

4747 And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

4747 "The king's servants have also gone to congratulate our lord King David, saying, 'May your God make the name of Solomon more famous than your name, and may He make his throne greater than your throne.' Then the king bowed in worship on his bed.

4747 In addition to all of this, the king's servants have come along to congratulate our lord King David. They've been telling David "May your God make Solomon's reputation even more famous than yours, and may he make his throne greater than yours!' The king has himself bowed in worship on his own bed

4747 Moreover, the king's servants came to congratulate our lord King David, saying, May God make the name of Solomon better than your name and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed

4848 "The king has also said thus, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has granted one to sit on my throne today while my own eyes see it.'"

4848 And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

4848 And the king went on to say this: 'May the Lord God of Israel be praised! Today He has provided one to sit on my throne, and I am a witness.' "

4848 and said "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has provided someone to sit on my throne today. I've seen it with my own eyes!'"

4848 And said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, Who has granted me to see one of my offspring sitting on my throne this day.

4949 Then all the guests of Adonijah were terrified; and they arose and each went on his way.

4949 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

4949 Then all of Adonijah's guests got up trembling and went their separate ways.

4949 Terrified, all of Adonijah's guests jumped up and ran away.

4949 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid and rose up and went every man his way.

5050 And Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, and he arose, went and took hold of the horns of the altar.

5050 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

5050 Adonijah was afraid of Solomon, so he got up and went to take hold of the horns of the altar.

5050 Afraid of Solomon, Adonijah also jumped up and headed straight for the horns of the altar.

5050 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose and went [to the tabernacle tent on Mt. Zion] and caught hold of the horns of the altar [as a fugitive's refuge].

5151 Now it was told Solomon, saying, "Behold, Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon, for behold, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.'"

5151 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

5151 It was reported to Solomon: "Look, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not kill his servant with the sword.' "

5151 "Hey look!" somebody informed Solomon. "Adonijah is terrified of King Solomon! He's gone out, grabbed hold of the horns of the altar, and now he's begging King Solomon, "Swear to me that you won't put your servant to death with a sword!'"

5151 And it was told Solomon, Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon, for behold, he has caught hold of the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

5252 Solomon said, "If he is a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground; but if wickedness is found in him, he will die."

5252 And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

5252 Then Solomon said, "If he is a man of character, then not a single hair of his will fall to the ground, but if evil is found in him, then he dies."

5252 "If he's done nothing wrong, not a hair of his head will be harmed," Solomon replied. "But if we find evil in him, he's a dead man."

5252 Solomon said, If he will show himself to be a worthy man, not a hair of him shall fall to the ground; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.

5353 So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and prostrated himself before King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house."

5353 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

5353 So King Solomon sent for him, and they took him down from the altar. He came and paid homage to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, "Go to your home."

5353 So King Solomon sent for him, and he was brought down from the altar. When he had arrived, he fell on his face in front of King Solomon, so Solomon told him, "Go home!"

5353 So King Solomon sent, and they brought Adonijah down from the altar [in front of the tabernacle]. He came and bowed himself to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, Go to your house.
