The King's Troubling Dream
1 And, in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, - and his spirit, was troubled, and, his sleep, had gone from him.

4 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king, in Aramaic, - O king, to the ages, live! Tell the dream to thy servants, and, the interpretation, we will declare.

5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The word from me, is unalterable: If ye shall not make known to me the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and, your houses, into a dunghill, shall be turned;
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.
5 The king replied to the Chaldeans, “(j)The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you will be (k)(H)torn limb from limb and your houses will be made a rubbish heap.
5 The king replied to the Chaldeans, “My word is final: If you don’t tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn limb from limb,(c) and your houses will be made a garbage dump.(F)
5 In reply the king told the Chaldeans, "Here is what I have commanded: If you don't tell me both the dream and its meaning, you'll be destroyed and your houses will be reduced to rubble.
6 but, if, the dream and the interpretation thereof, ye will declare, gifts and a present and great dignity, shall ye receive from before me, - therefore, the dream and the interpretation thereof, declare ye unto me.
6 But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
6 But if you declare the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me (I)gifts and a reward and great honor; therefore declare to me the dream and its interpretation.”
6 But if you make the dream and its interpretation known to me, you’ll receive gifts, a reward, and great honor from me.(G) So make the dream and its interpretation known to me.”
6 But if you do relate the dream to me as well as its meaning, you'll receive gifts, rewards, and great honor from me. Therefore reveal the dream to me, along with its meaning."
7 They answered again and said, - Let, the king, tell, the dream, to his servants, and, the interpretation thereof, we will declare.

7 They answered a second time and said, “Let the king (J)tell the dream to his servants, and we will declare the interpretation.”

8 The king answered and said, Of a certainty, I know, that, time, ye, would gain, - merely because ye see that, unalterable, from me, is the word:

8 The king replied, “I know for certain that you are (l)bargaining for time, inasmuch as you have seen that (m)the command from me is firm,

8 The king responded, "I'm convinced that you're stalling for time because you're aware of what I've commanded.
9 That, if, the dream, ye shall not make known to me, one and the same, is the decree, and, a lying and wicked word, have ye agreed to speak before me, that meanwhile the time may be changed, - therefore, the dream, tell ye me, so shall I know that, the interpretation thereof, ye can declare for me.
9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof.
9 that if you do not make the dream known to me, there is only (K)one (n)decree for you. For you have agreed together to speak lying and corrupt (o)words before me until the (p)situation is changed; therefore tell me the dream, that I may (L)know that you can declare to me its interpretation.”
9 If you don’t tell me the dream, there is one decree for you.(H) You have conspired to tell me something false or fraudulent until the situation changes. So tell me the dream and I will know you can give me its interpretation.”
9 So if you don't disclose the dream to me, there will be only one sentence for all of you. You have conspired together to present lies and corrupt interpretations until the situation changes. Now tell me the dream and I'll know that you can reveal its true meaning."
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth, who can declare, the matter of the king, - although indeed, there is no king, chief ruler who, a thing like this, hath asked of any sacred scribe or magician or Chaldean;
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

11 and, the thing which the king hath asked, is difficult, and, none other, is there, who can declare it before the king, - saving the gods whose dwelling is, not with flesh.
11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
11 Moreover, the thing which the king demands is (t)difficult, and there is no one else who could declare it (u)to the king except (N)gods, whose (O)dwelling place is not with mortal flesh.”

12 For this cause, the king, was provoked and exceedingly indignant, - and gave word to destroy all the wise men of Babylon;

God Shows Daniel What The Dream Means
14 Immediately, Daniel, made answer with prudence and discretion, to Arioch, chief of the executioners of the king, - who had come forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:
14 Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to (R)Arioch, the captain of the king’s (x)bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon;

15 he began to speak and said to Arioch the king's captain, - For what cause, is the decree raging forth from before the king? Then did Arioch make the matter known unto Daniel.
15 He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.
15 he said to Arioch, the king’s commander, “For what reason is the (y)decree from the king so (z)urgent?” Then Arioch informed Daniel about the matter.
15 He asked Arioch, the king’s officer, “Why is the decree from the king so harsh?”(e)(M) Then Arioch explained the situation to Daniel.
15 He asked him, "Why such a harsh decree from the king?" Then Arioch informed Daniel,
16 So Daniel entered in, and desired of the king, - that, an appointed time, he would give him, and then, the interpretation, he would declare unto the king.
16 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation.

God Reveals Nebuchadnezzar's Dream
17 Then Daniel, to his own house, departed, - and, to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, made the matter known;

18 that, tender compassion, they might seek from before the God of the heavens, concerning this secret, - that Daniel and his companions, might not be destroyed, with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
18 so that they might (T)request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be (U)destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
18 urging them to ask the God of heaven(N) for mercy(O) concerning this mystery, so Daniel and his friends would not be killed with the rest of Babylon’s wise men.(P)
18 Daniel was seeking mercy, in order to ask about this mystery in the presence of the God of heaven, so that Daniel and his friends might not be executed along with the rest of the advisors of Babylon.
19 Then, unto Daniel - in a vision of the night, the secret was revealed, - whereupon, Daniel, blessed the God of the heavens:
19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20 Daniel responded, and said, Let the name of God be blessed from age to age, - in that wisdom and might, to him belong;

20 and declared:May the name of Godbe praised forever and ever,(R)for wisdom(S) and power belong to Him.
20 and said, "May the name of God be blessed forever and ever; wisdom and power are his for evermore.
21 And, he, changeth times and seasons, removeth kings, and setteth up kings, - giving wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to them who are skilled in understanding:

21 It is God who alters the times and seasons, and he removes kings and promotes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
22 He, revealeth the deep things, and the hidden, - knoweth what is in the darkness, and, light, with him, doth dwell.

23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.

Daniel Praises God And Interprets The King's Dream
24 Therefore, Daniel entered in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon, - he went in, and, thus, he said unto him, The wise men of Babylon, do not thou destroy, bring me in before the king, and, the interpretation - unto the king, will I declare.
24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation.
24 Therefore, Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and spoke to him as follows: “(AH)Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon! Take me (ad)into the king’s presence, and I will declare the interpretation to the king.”
24 Therefore Daniel went to Arioch,(Z) whom the king had assigned to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He came and said to him, “Don’t kill the wise men of Babylon! Bring me before the king, and I will give him the interpretation.”(AA)
24 After this, Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the advisors of Babylon. He told him, "Don't destroy the advisors of Babylon. Bring me before the king and I'll explain the meaning to him."
25 Thereupon, Arioch - with haste, brought in Daniel before the king, - and, thus, he said to him - I have found a man of the sons of the exile of Judah, who, the interpretation - unto the king, will make known.
25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.
25 Then Arioch hurriedly (AI)brought Daniel (ae)into the king’s presence and spoke to him as follows: “I have found a man among the (af)(AJ)exiles from Judah who can make the interpretation known to the king!”
25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king and said to him, “I have found a man among the Judean exiles(AB) who can let the king know the interpretation.”
25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel into the king's presence and informed him: "I've found a man from the Judean captives who will make known the meaning to the king."
26 The king answered and said unto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, - Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?

26 King Nebuchadnezzar replied by saying to Daniel (whose Babylonian name is Belteshazzar), "Are you able to tell me about the dream and its meaning?"
27 Daniel answered before the king, and said, - The secret which the king hath asked, the wise men, the magicians, the sacred scribes, the astrologers, are not able to declare unto the king;
27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
27 Daniel answered before the king and said, “As for the mystery about which the king has inquired, neither (AL)wise men, conjurers, (ag)magicians nor diviners are able to declare it to the king.
27 Daniel answered the king: “No wise man, medium, diviner-priest, or astrologer(AE) is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.
27 By way of answer, Daniel addressed the king:
28 but there is a God in the heavens, who revealeth secrets, and hath made known to King Nebuchadnezzar, what shall come to pass, in the afterpart of the days: Thy dream and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are, these: -
28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
28 However, there is a (AM)God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the (ah)(AN)latter days. This was your dream and the (AO)visions (ai)in your mind while on your bed.
28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will happen in the last days.(AF) Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay in bed(AG) were these:
28 "None of the advisors, enchanters, diviners, or astrologers can explain the secret that the king has requested to be made known. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he is making known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the latter days.
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts upon thy bed, arose regarding what should come to pass hereafter; and, he that revealeth secrets, made known to thee what shall come to pass.
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
29 As for you, O king, while on your bed your thoughts (aj)turned to what would take place (ak)in the future; and (AP)He who reveals mysteries has made known to you what will take place.
29 Your Majesty, while you were in your bed, thoughts came to your mind about what will happen in the future.(g)(AH) The revealer of mysteries(AI) has let you know what will happen.
29 "While you were in bed, the dream and the visions that came to your head were as follows: Your majesty, when you were in bed, thoughts came to your mind about what would happen in the future, and the Revealer of Secrets has made known to you what will take place.
30 But, as for me - not for any wisdom that is in me, more than any of the living, is, this secret, revealed to me, - therefore, it is in order that, the interpretation - unto the king, they should make known, and that, the thoughts of thy heart, thou shouldst get to know.
30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
30 But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me for any (AQ)wisdom (al)residing in me more than in any other living man, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king, and that you may (am)understand the (AR)thoughts of your (an)mind.
30 As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me,(AJ) not because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but in order that the interpretation might be made known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your mind.(AK)
30 As for me, this secret was made known to me, not because my own wisdom is greater than anyone else alive, but in order that the meaning may be made known to the king, and that you might understand the thoughts of your heart.
The Dream's Interpretation
31 As for thee, O king, thou wast looking, when lo! a great image, this image, being mighty, and the brightness thereof surpassing, was standing before thee, - and, the appearance thereof, was terrible.
31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
31 “You, O king, were looking and behold, there was a single great statue; that statue, which was large and (ao)of extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was (AS)awesome.
31 “My king, as you were watching, a colossal statue appeared. That statue, tall and dazzling, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was terrifying.
31 "Your majesty, while you were watching, you observed an enormous statue. This magnificent statue stood before you with extraordinary brilliance. Its appearance was terrifying.
32 As for this image, its head, was of fine gold, its breast and its arms, were of silver, - its belly and its thighs, of bronze;

35 Then were broken in pieces at once, the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, and became like chaff out of the summer threshing-floors, and the wind, carried them away, and, no place, was found for them, - but, the stone that smote the image, became a mighty rock, and filled all the land.

35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken in pieces together and became like chaff from a summer threshing floor that the breeze carries away without leaving a trace. Then the rock that struck the statue grew into a huge mountain and filled the entire earth.
36 This, is the dream, and, the interpretation thereof, we will tell before the king.

38 and, wheresoever the sons of men do dwell, the wild beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou, art the head of gold.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

40 And, the fourth kingdom, shall be hard as iron, - in like manner as iron breaketh in pieces and crusheth all things, - even as iron which bringeth to ruins all these, shall it break in pieces and bring to ruins.
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
40 Then there will be a (BE)fourth kingdom as strong as iron; inasmuch as iron crushes and shatters all things, so, like iron that breaks in pieces, it will crush and break all these in pieces.

41 And, whereas thou sawest the feet and the toes, part of them of potter's clay, and part of them of iron, the kingdom, shall be, divided, and, of the hardness of the iron, shall there be in it, - forasmuch as thou sawest, the iron, combined with the miry clay;
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

43 and, whereas thou sawest, the iron, combined with the miry clay, they shall be combined with the seed of men, but shall not cleave firmly one to another, - lo! as iron is not to be combined with clay.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
43 And in that you saw the iron mixed with (at)common clay, they will combine with one another (au)in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery.
43 You saw the iron mixed with clay—the peoples will mix with one another(j) but will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with fired clay.
43 Just as you saw iron mixed with clay, so they will mix themselves with human offspring. Furthermore, they won't remain together, just as iron doesn't mix with clay.
44 And, in the days of those kings, shall the God of the heavens, set up, a kingdom which, to the ages, shall not be destroyed, and, the kingdom, to another people, shall not be left, - it shall break in pieces and make an end of all these kingdoms, but, itself, shall stand to the ages.
44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
44 In the days of those kings the (BF)God of heaven will (BG)set up a (BH)kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be (av)left for another people; it will (BI)crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.

45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that, out of the rock, a stone tare itself away, but not with hands, and brake in pieces the clay, the iron, the bronze, the silver and the gold, the mighty God, hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. Exact then is the dream, and trusty its interpretation.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

45 Now, just as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without human hands and that it crushed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold to pieces so also the great God has revealed to the king what will take place after this. Your dream will come true, and its meaning will prove trustworthy."
The King's Response To Daniel And His God
46 Then, King Nebuchadnezzar, fell upon his face, and, unto Daniel, paid adoration; and, a present and sweet odours, gave he word to pour out unto him.
46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.

47 The king answered Daniel, and said - Of a truth, your God, is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a Revealer of secrets, - seeing thou wast able to reveal this secret.
47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.
47 The king answered Daniel and said, “Surely (BO)your God is a (BP)God of gods and a Lord of kings and a (BQ)revealer of mysteries, since you have been able to reveal this mystery.”
47 The king said to Daniel, “Your God is indeed God of gods, Lord of kings,(BB) and a revealer of mysteries,(BC) since you were able to reveal this mystery.”
47 The king told Daniel, "Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and the Revealer of Secrets, because you were able to reveal this mystery."
48 Then, the king, exalted, Daniel, and, many large presents, gave he unto him, and set him to be ruler over all the province of Babylon, - and chief of the nobles, over all the wise men of Babylon.
48 Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 And, Daniel, desired of the king, and he appointed - over the business of the province of Babylon - Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, - but, Daniel himself, was in the gate of the king.
49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
49 And Daniel made request of the king, and he (BT)appointed (BU)Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego over the administration of the province of Babylon, while Daniel was at the king’s (ba)(BV)court.
49 At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego(BE) to manage the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained at the king’s court.(BF)
49 Moreover, Daniel requested that the king appoint Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained in the royal court.
