Israel's Sins

6 But thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they go far beyond the east countries in Sorcerers - who they have as the Philistines had - and in calkers of men's births, whereof they have too many.

6 For You have (J)abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob,Because they are filled with influences from the east,And they are soothsayers (K)like the Philistines,And they (L)strike bargains with the children of foreigners.

6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

6 For You have abandoned(J) Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are full of divination from the Eastand of fortune-tellers(K) like the Philistines.(L)They are in league(a) with foreigners.

6 For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with practices learned from the East and they are fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They cut deals with foreigners.

7 As soon as your land was full of silver and gold, and no end of your treasure; so soon as your land was full of strong horses and no end of your chariots:

7 Their land has also been filled with silver and goldAnd there is no end to their treasures;Their land has also been filled with (M)horsesAnd there is no end to their chariots.

7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

7 Their(b)(c) land is full of silver and gold, and there is no limit to their treasures;their land is full of horses, and there is no limit to their chariots.(M)

7 Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots.

8 Immediately was it full of idols also, even works of your own hands, which ye yourselves have fashioned, and your fingers have made.

8 Their land has also been (N)filled with idols; They worship the (O)work of their hands,That which their fingers have made.

8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

8 Their land is full of idols;(N)they bow down to the work of their hands,to what their fingers have made.(O)

8 Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.

9 There kneeleth the man, there falleth the man down before them; but thou, O LORD, wilt not leave them unpunished.

9 So (P)the common man has been humbledAnd the man of importance has been abased,But (Q)do not forgive them.

9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

9 So humanity is brought low,and man is humbled.Do not forgive them!(P)

9 "So mankind is humbled, each human being is brought low, and you won't forgive."

10 And therefore get thee soon into some rock, and hide thee in the ground for the fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty:

10 (R)Enter the rock and hide in the dust(S)From the terror of the Lord and from the splendor of His majesty.

10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.

10 Go into the rocks(Q)and hide in the dustfrom the terror of the Lord(R)and from His majestic splendor.(S)

10 "Go into the rocks! Hide in the dust to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the glory of his majesty!

11 which casteth down the high looks of presumptuous persons, and bringeth low the pride of man, and the LORD only shall be exalted in that day.

11 The (e)(T)proud look of man will be abasedAnd the (U)loftiness of man will be humbled,And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

11 Human pride(d) will be humbled,(T)and the loftiness of men will be brought low;the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.

11 The haughty looks of mankind will be brought low, the lofty pride of human beings will be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted at that time.

The Day Of The Lord's Judgment

12 For the day of the LORD of Hosts shall go over all pride and presumption, upon all them that exalt themselves, and shall bring them all down:

12 For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoningAgainst (V)everyone who is proud and loftyAnd against everyone who is lifted up,That he may be abased.

12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

12 For a day belonging to the Lord of Hosts is comingagainst all that is proud and lofty,(U)against all that is lifted up—it will be humbled—

12 "For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has reserved a time to oppose all who are proud and haughty, and the self-exalting they will be humbled.

13 upon all high and stout Cedar trees of Lebanon, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

13 And it will be against all the cedars of Lebanon that are lofty and lifted up,Against all the (W)oaks of Bashan,

13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

13 against all the cedars of Lebanon,(V)lofty and lifted up,against all the oaks of Bashan,(W)

13 He will take his stand against all the cedars of Lebanon, against the proud and self-exalting; and against all the oaks of Bashan;

14 upon all high hills, and upon all stout mountains,

14 Against all the (X)lofty mountains,Against all the hills that are lifted up,

14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

14 against all the high mountains,(X)against all the lofty hills,

14 against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills;

15 upon all costly towers, and upon all strong walls,

15 Against every (Y)high tower,Against every fortified wall,

15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,

15 against every high tower,(Y)against every fortified wall,

15 against every high tower, and against every fortified wall;

16 upon all ships of Tarshish, and upon everything that is glorious and pleasant to look upon.

16 Against all the (Z)ships of TarshishAnd against all the beautiful craft.

16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.

16 against every ship of Tarshish,(Z)and against every splendid sea vessel.

16 against all the ships from Tarshish, and against all their impressive watercraft.

17 And it shall bring down the pride of man, and lay man's presumptuousness full low, and the LORD shall only have the victory in that day.

17 The pride of man will be humbledAnd the loftiness of men will be abased; And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,

17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

17 So human pride will be brought low,and the loftiness of men will be humbled;the Lord alone will be exalted on that day.(AA)

17 "Humanity's haughtiness will be humbled, male arrogance will be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.

18 But the Idols shall utterly be rooted out.

18 But the (AA)idols will completely vanish.

18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.

18 The idols will vanish completely.

18 Their idols will utterly vanish.

19 Men shall creep into holes of stone, and into caves of the earth, for the fear of the LORD, and from the glory of his majesty: what time as he shall arise to shake the earth.

19 Men will (AB)go into caves of the rocksAnd into holes of the (f)groundBefore the terror of the LordAnd the splendor of His majesty,When He arises (AC)to make the earth tremble.

19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

19 People will go into caves in the rocks(AB)and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the Lordand from His majestic splendor, when He rises to terrify the earth.(AC)

19 "They will enter caverns in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the presence of the terror of the LORD, to escape the splendor of his majesty when he arises to terrify the earth.

20 Then, then shall man cast away his gods of silver and gold - which he nevertheless had made to honour them - unto moles and bats

20 In that day men will (AD)cast away to the moles and the (AE)batsTheir idols of silver and their idols of gold,Which they made for themselves to worship,

20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

20 On that day people will throwtheir silver and gold idols,(AD)which they made to worship,to the moles and the bats.

20 At that time, mankind will throw their silver and gold idols that their fingers have made as objects of worship to the moles and to the bats.

21 that he may the better creep into the caves and rocks, and into the cliffs of hard stones, from the sight of the fearful judge and from the glory of his Majesty.

21 In order to (AF)go into the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffsBefore the terror of the Lord and the splendor of His majesty,When He arises to make the earth tremble.

21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

21 They will go into the caves of the rocksand the crevices in the cliffs, away from the terror of the Lordand from His majestic splendor,(AE)when He rises to terrify the earth.

21 They will enter caverns in the rocks and clefts in the cliffs, to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to terrorize the earth.

22 Fear not, then, any man whose breath is in his nostrils - for what is he?

22 (g)(AG)Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For (h)(AH)why should he be esteemed?

22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

22 Put no more trust in man,who has only the breath in his nostrils.(AF)What is he really worth?

22 "Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they really worth?"
