2 Till when dost thou speak these things? And a strong wind -- sayings of thy mouth?

2 How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

2 “How long will you say these things,And the (A)words of your mouth be a mighty wind?

2 How long will you go on saying these things?Your words(A) are a blast of wind.(B)

2 "How long will you keep talking like this? How long will you keep talking like a wind storm?

3 Doth God pervert judgment? And doth the Mighty One pervert justice?

3 Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

3 “Does (B)God pervert justice?Or does (b)the Almighty pervert what is right?

3 Does God pervert justice?(C)Does the Almighty pervert what is right?(D)

3 Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what's right?

4 If thy sons have sinned before Him, And He doth send them away, By the hand of their transgression,

4 If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

4 (C)If your sons sinned against Him,Then He delivered them into the (c)power of their transgression.

4 Since your children sinned against Him,He gave them over to their rebellion.

4 "If your children sin against him, he'll make them a prisoner of their sins.

5 If thou dost seek early unto God, And unto the Mighty makest supplication,

5 If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

5 “If you would (D)seek GodAnd implore the compassion of (d)the Almighty,

5 But if you earnestly seek(E) Godand ask the Almighty for mercy,(F)

5 If you seek God, if you ask the Almighty for mercy,

6 If pure and upright thou art, Surely now He waketh for thee, And hath completed The habitation of thy righteousness.

6 If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

6 If you are pure and upright,Surely now (E)He would rouse Himself for youAnd restore your righteous (e)(F)estate.

6 if you are pure and upright, then He will move even now on your behalfand restore the home where your righteousness dwells.(G)

6 if you are clean and upright, surely then, he'll act on your behalf and restore your rightful place.

7 And thy beginning hath been small, And thy latter end is very great.

7 Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

7 “Though your beginning was insignificant,Yet your (G)end will increase greatly.

7 Then, even if your beginnings were modest, your final days will be full of prosperity.(H)

7 Your beginning may be small, but later years will be very great.

Learn From Past Generations

8 For, ask I pray thee of a former generation, And prepare to a search of their fathers,

8 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

8 “Please (H)inquire of past generations,And consider the things searched out by their fathers.

8 For ask the previous generation, and pay attention to what their fathers discovered,(I)

8 "Inquire of the previous generation, won't you please? Consider what their forefathers searched out.

9 (For of yesterday we are, and we know not, For a shadow are our days on earth.)

9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

9 “For we are only of yesterday and know nothing,Because (I)our days on earth are as a shadow.

9 since we were born only yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are but a shadow.(J)

9 Because we are of yesterday and we know nothing, for our time on earth is only a shadow.

10 Do they not shew thee -- speak to thee, And from their heart bring forth words?

10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

10 “Will they not teach you and tell you,And bring forth words from their minds?

10 Will they not teach you and tell youand speak from their understanding?

10 Won't they instruct you, and tell you, and bring out words from the heart?

God Does Not Punish The Innocent Person

11 'Doth a rush wise without mire? A reed increase without water?

11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

11 “Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh? Can the rushes grow without water?

11 Does papyrus grow where there is no marsh?Do reeds flourish without water?

11 "Can papyrus grow where there's no marsh? Can reeds flourish without water?

12 While it is in its budding -- uncropped, Even before any herb it withereth.

12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

12 “While it is still green and not cut down,Yet it withers before any other (f)plant.

12 While still uncut shoots, they would dry up quicker than any other plant.

12 While they are still green and not yet ready to be harvested, they wither before any plant.

13 So are the paths of all forgetting God, And the hope of the profane doth perish,

13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

13 “So are the paths of (J)all who forget God;And the (K)hope of the godless will perish,

13 Such is the destiny(a) of all who forget God;the hope of the godless(K) will perish.

13 Such are the paths of everyone who forgets God the hope of the godless will be destroyed:

14 Whose confidence is loathsome, And the house of a spider his trust.

14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

14 Whose confidence is fragile,And whose trust a (L)spider’s (g)web.

14 His source of confidence is fragile;(b)what he trusts in is a spider’s web.(L)

14 his confidence is shattered; his trust is in a spider's web.

15 He leaneth on his house -- and it standeth not: He taketh hold on it -- and it abideth not.

15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

15 “He (h)trusts in his (M)house, but it does not stand; He holds fast to it, but it does not endure.

15 He leans on his web, but it doesn’t stand firm.He grabs it, but it does not hold up.

15 He leans against his house, but it won't stand; he grabs hold of it firmly, but it doesn't last.

16 Green he is before the sun, And over his garden his branch goeth out.

16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

16 “He (i)(N)thrives before the sun,And his (O)shoots spread out over his garden.

16 He is a well-watered plant in the sunshine;his shoots spread out over his garden.

16 He is a fresh sapling planted in the sunlight, spreading out its branches over its garden.

17 By a heap his roots are wrapped, A house of stones he looketh for.

17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

17 “His roots wrap around a rock pile,He (j)grasps a house of stones.

17 His roots are intertwined around a pile of rocks. He looks for a home among the stones.

17 Its roots weave around a pile of stones, seeking to entrench itself among the rocks.

18 If one doth destroy him from his place, Then it hath feigned concerning him, I have not seen thee!

18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

18 “If he is (k)removed from (P)his place,Then it will deny him, saying, ‘(Q)I never saw you.’

18 If he is uprooted(c) from his place,it will deny knowing him, saying, “I never saw you.”(M)

18 If he is uprooted from his place, then it will deny him: "I never saw you.'

19 Lo, this is the joy of his way, And from the dust others spring up.'

19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

19 “Behold, (R)this is the joy of His way;And out of the dust others will spring.

19 Surely this is the joy of his way of life;yet others will sprout from the dust.

19 "Indeed, this is the benefit of God's way: from the soil other plants will sprout.

20 Lo, God doth not reject the perfect, Nor taketh hold on the hand of evil doers.

20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

20 “Lo, (S)God will not reject a man of integrity,Nor (T)will He (l)support the evildoers.

20 Look, God does not reject a person of integrity, and He will not support evildoers.(N)

20 Surely God won't reject those who are blameless or hold hands with those who practice evil.

21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

21 “He will yet fill (U)your mouth with laughterAnd your lips with shouting.

21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughterand your lips with a shout of joy.(O)

22 Those hating thee do put on shame, And the tent of the wicked is not!

22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

22 “Those who hate you will be (V)clothed with shame,And the (W)tent of the wicked will be no longer.”

22 Your enemies will be clothed with shame;(P)the tent(Q) of the wicked will exist no longer.

22 Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will no longer exist.
