1 These things, have I spoken unto you, that ye may not be caused to stumble:
1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
1 “I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling.
1 "I have told you this to keep you from falling away.
2 Excommunicants from the synagogue, will they make you; Nay! there cometh an hour, that, every one who killeth you, shall think to be rendering, divine service, unto God!
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
2 You'll be thrown out of the synagogues. Yes, a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he's serving God.
3 And, these things, will they do, because they got to know, neither the Father nor me.
3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
3 They'll do this because they haven't known the Father or me.
4 But, these things, have I told you, - That, whensoever their hour shall come, ye may remember, that, thereof, I told you. These things, however, I told you not, from the beginning, because I was, with you;
4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
4 But I've told you this, so that when the time comes you'll remember that I told you about them. I didn't tell you this in the beginning, because I was still with you."
5 But, now, I go my way unto him that sent me, and, not one from among you, questioneth me - Whither goest thou?
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
5 "But now I am going to the one who sent me. Yet none of you asks me, "Where are you going?'
6 But, because, these things, I have told you, sorrow, hath filled your heart.
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
6 Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
6 But because I have told you this, sorrow has filled your hearts.
7 But, I, the truth, am telling you - It is profitable for you, that, I, depart; for, if I should not depart, The Advocate, would in nowise come unto you, but, if I go, I will send him unto you.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
7 However, I'm telling you the truth. It's for your advantage that I'm going away, because if I don't go away, the Helper won't come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
8 And, having come, He, will reprove the world - Concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment:
8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
8 When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment:
8 When he comes, he will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment
10 But, concerning righteousness, because, unto the Father, I go my way, and, no longer, do ye behold me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
10 of righteousness, because I'm going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
11 And, concerning judgment, because, the ruler of this world, hath been judged.
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
11 and of judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
12 Yet many things, have I, unto you, to be saying, - but ye cannot bear them, just now;
12 “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
12 "I still have a lot to say to you, but you cannot bear it now.
13 Howbeit, as soon as, he, hath come - The Spirit of truth, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak from himself, but, whatsoever he heareth, he will speak, and, the coming things, will he announce unto you.
13 But when He, (R)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will (S)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
13 Yet when the Spirit of Truth comes, he'll guide you into all truth. He won't speak on his own accord, but he'll speak whatever he hears and will declare to you the things that are to come.
14 He, shall glorify me; for, of mine, shall he receive, and announce unto you.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
14 He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you.
14 He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
15 All things, whatsoever the Father hath, are, my own; therefore, said I - Of mine, shall he receive, and announce unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All that the Father has is mine. That is why I said, "He will take what is mine and declare it to you.'
16 A little while, and, no longer, ye behold me; and, again a little while, and ye shall see me.
16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
16 In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again."
17 Some of his disciples, therefore, said one to another - What is this which he is saying to us: - A little while, and ye behold me not, and, again a little while, and ye shall see me; and - Because I go my way unto the Father?
17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, “What is this thing He is telling us, ‘(Y)A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because (Z)I go to the Father’?”
17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
17 Therefore some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this He tells us: ‘A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’(U)?”
17 At this point, some of his disciples asked each other, "What does he mean by telling us, "In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again,' and, "because I am going to the Father'?"
18 They were saying, therefore - What is this which he saith: - A little while? We know not what he is saying.
18 So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.”
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
18 They kept saying, "What is this "in a little while' that he keeps talking about? We don't know what he means."
19 Jesus took note, that they were wishing to question him, and said unto them - Concerning this, are ye enquiring one with another, - because I said: - A little while, and ye behold me not, and, again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
19 (AA)Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’?
19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
19 Jesus knew they wanted to question Him, so He said to them, “Are you asking one another about what I said, ‘A little while and you will not see Me; again a little while and you will see Me’?
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him a question, so he asked them, "Are you discussing among yourselves what I meant when I said, "In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again'?
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you - Ye, shall weep and lament, but, the world, shall rejoice: Ye, shall be grieved, but, your grief, into joy, shall be turned.
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
20 Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, you'll cry and mourn, but the world will rejoice. You'll be deeply distressed, but your pain will turn into joy.
21 A woman, as soon as she is about to bring forth, hath, grief, because her hour hath come; but, as soon as she hath given birth to the child, no longer, remembereth she the anguish, by reason of the joy, that a human being into the world hath been born.
21 (AD)Whenever a woman is in labor she has (d)pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a (e)child has been born into the world.
21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
21 When a woman is in labor she has pain(X) because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child,(Y) she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a person has been born into the world.
21 When a woman is in labor she has pain, because her time has come. Yet when she has given birth to her child, she doesn't remember the agony anymore because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world.
22 And, ye, therefore, now, indeed have grief; but, again, will I see you, and your heart shall rejoice, - and, your joy, no one, shall force from you.
22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
22 Now you are having pain. But I'll see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23 And, in that day, shall ye request me, nothing: - Verily, verily, I say unto you - Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father, He will give you, in my name.
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
23 On that day, you won't ask me for anything. Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, whatever you ask the Father for in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Until even now, ye have asked nothing in my name: Be asking, and ye shall receive, - that, your joy, may be made full.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
24 So far you haven't asked for anything in my name. Keep asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete."
25 These things, in similitudes, have I spoken unto you: There cometh an hour, when, no longer in similitudes, will I speak unto you, but, openly, concerning the Father, will I tell you.
25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
25 “I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. A time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.
25 "I have said these things to you in figurative language. The time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26 In that day, In my name, shall ye ask: - and I say not that, I, will request the Father for you;
26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
26 At that time, you will make your requests in my name, so that I will have no need to ask the Father on your behalf,
27 For, the Father himself, dearly loveth you, because, ye, have dearly loved me, and believed that, I, from the Father, came forth: -
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
27 because the Father himself loves you, and because you have loved me and believed that I came from God.
28 I came forth out of the Father, and have come into the world, - Again, I leave the world, and go, unto the Father.
28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
28 I left the Father and came into the world. Now I'm leaving the world and going back to the Father."
29 His disciples say - See! now, openly, art thou speaking, and, not a single similitude, art thou using:
29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
29 “Ah!” His disciples said. “Now You’re speaking plainly and not using any figurative language.
29 Jesus' disciples said, "Well, now you're speaking plainly and not using figurative language.
30 Now, we know, that thou knowest all things, and hast, no need, that one be questioning thee. Hereby, do we believe, that, from God, thou camest forth.
30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
30 Now we know that you know everything and don't need to have anyone ask you any questions. Because of this, we believe that you have come from God."
32 Lo! there cometh an hour, and hath come, that ye should be scattered, each, unto his own home; and, me, alone, should leave; - And yet I am not, alone, but, the Father, is, with me!
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
32 Listen, the time is coming, indeed it has already come, when you will be scattered, each of you to his own home, and you will leave me all by myself. Yet I'm not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things, have I spoken unto you, that, in me, ye may have, peace: In the world, ye have, tribulation; but be taking courage, - I, have overcome the world.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
33 I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you'll have trouble, but be courageous I've overcome the world!"
