Israel's Rebellion And Repentance

6 The Israelites again did evil in the Lord's sight. They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtars, as well as the gods of Syria, Sidon, Moab, the Ammonites, and the Philistines. They abandoned the Lord and did not worship him.

6 Then the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, (C)served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, (D)the gods of the sons of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; thus (E)they forsook the Lord and did not serve Him.

6 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.

6 Then the Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.(B) They worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths, the gods of Aram, Sidon, and Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites and the Philistines.(C) They abandoned Yahweh and did not worship Him.(D)

6 Later on, the Israelis again practiced what the LORD considered to be evil by serving the Baals, the stars, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the descendants of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. In doing so, they ignored the LORD and wouldn't serve him.

7 The Lord was furious with Israel and turned them over to the Philistines and Ammonites.

7 The anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and He (F)sold them into the hands of the Philistines and into the hands of the sons of Ammon.

7 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

7 So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He sold them to(c) the Philistines and the Ammonites.

7 In his burning anger against Israel, he sold them into domination by the Philistines and the Ammonites,

8 They ruthlessly oppressed the Israelites that eighteenth year -- that is, all the Israelites living east of the Jordan in Amorite country in Gilead.

8 They (c)afflicted and crushed the sons of Israel (d)that year; for eighteen years they afflicted all the sons of Israel who were beyond the Jordan (e)in Gilead in the land of the Amorites.

8 And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

8 They shattered and crushed the Israelites that year, and for 18 years they did the same to all the Israelites who were on the other side of the Jordan(E) in the land of the Amorites(F) in Gilead.

8 who trampled and troubled the Israelis during that year eighteen years for the Israelis who lived east of the Jordan River in Gilead, the land occupied by the Amorites.

9 The Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight with Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim. Israel suffered greatly.

9 The sons of Ammon crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was greatly distressed.

9 Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

9 The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim. Israel was greatly oppressed,

10 The Israelites cried out for help to the Lord: "We have sinned against you. We abandoned our God and worshiped the Baals."

10 Then the (G)sons of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You, for indeed, we have forsaken our God and served the Baals.”

10 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

10 so they cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against You.(G) We have abandoned our God and worshiped the Baals.”

10 Then the Israelis cried out to the LORD and told him, "We have sinned against you because we have abandoned our God to serve the Baals."

11 The Lord said to the Israelites, "Did I not deliver you from Egypt, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,

11 The Lord said to the sons of Israel, “Did I not deliver you (H)from the Egyptians, (I)the Amorites, (J)the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines?

11 And the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

11 The Lord said to the Israelites, “When the Egyptians,(H) Amorites, Ammonites, Philistines,

11 The LORD replied to the Israelis, "Aren't you away from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, and the Philistines?

12 the Sidonians, Amalek, and Midian when they oppressed you? You cried out for help to me, and I delivered you from their power.

12 Also when the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites (K)oppressed you, you cried out to Me, and I delivered you from their hands.

12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.

12 Sidonians, Amalekites, and Maonites(d)(I) oppressed you, and you cried out to Me, did I not deliver you from their power?

12 And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites harassed you, you cried out to me, and I delivered you from under their domination.

13 But since you abandoned me and worshiped other gods, I will not deliver you again.

13 Yet (L)you have forsaken Me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer deliver you.

13 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.

13 But you have abandoned Me and worshiped other gods. Therefore, I will not deliver you again.

13 But you have abandoned me and served other gods. Therefore I will no longer be delivering you.

14 Go and cry for help to the gods you have chosen! Let them deliver you from trouble!"

14 (M)Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress.”

14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen.(J) Let them deliver you in the time of your oppression.”

14 Go and cry out to the gods that you have chosen for yourselves. Let them deliver you in your time of trouble."

15 But the Israelites said to the Lord, "We have sinned. You do to us as you see fit, but deliver us today!"

15 The sons of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned, (N)do to us whatever seems good to You; only please deliver us this day.”

15 And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.

15 But the Israelites said, “We have sinned. Deal with us as You see fit;(e) only deliver us(K) today!”

15 The Israelis replied to the LORD, "We have sinned, so do to us anything that's right to do in your opinion, just please deliver us right now."

16 They threw away the foreign gods they owned and worshiped the Lord. Finally the Lord grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much.

16 (O)So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and (f)(P)He could bear the misery of Israel no longer.

16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

16 So they got rid of the foreign gods(L) among them and worshiped the Lord,(M) and He became weary(N) of Israel’s misery.

16 When they put away their foreign gods and served the LORD, he brought Israel's misery to an end.

17 The Ammonites assembled and camped in Gilead; the Israelites gathered together and camped in Mizpah.

17 Then the sons of Ammon were summoned and they camped in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together and camped in (Q)Mizpah.

17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.

17 The Ammonites were called together, and they camped in Gilead. So the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.(O)

17 The Ammonites were summoned and they encamped in Gilead. The Israelis assembled together and encamped in Mizpah.

18 The leaders of Gilead said to one another, "Who is willing to lead the charge against the Ammonites? He will become the leader of all who live in Gilead!"

18 The people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He shall become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

18 The rulers(f) of Gilead said to one another, “Which man will lead the fight against the Ammonites? He will be the leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

18 The people and Gilead's officials inquired among themselves, "Who will begin our attack against the Ammonites? He'll become head over everyone who lives in Gilead."
