The Parable Of The Unjust Judge

1 And he spake also a simile to them, that it behoveth us always to pray, and not to faint,

1 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they (A)ought to pray and not to (B)lose heart,

1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

1 He then told them a parable on the need for them to pray(A) always and not become discouraged:(B)

1 Jesus told his disciples a parable about their need to pray all the time and never give up.

2 saying, 'A certain judge was in a certain city -- God he is not fearing, and man he is not regarding --

2 saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not (C)respect man.

2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

2 “There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God(C) or respect man.

2 He said, "In a city there was a judge who didn't fear God or respect people.

3 and a widow was in that city, and she was coming unto him, saying, Do me justice on my opponent,

3 There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘(a)Give me legal protection from my opponent.’

3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

3 And a widow(D) in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

3 In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, "Grant me justice against my adversary.'

4 and he would not for a time, but after these things he said in himself, Even if God I do not fear, and man do not regard,

4 For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor (D)respect man,

4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

4 “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect man,

4 For a while the judge refused. But later, he told himself, "I don't fear God or respect people,

5 yet because this widow doth give me trouble, I will do her justice, lest, perpetually coming, she may plague me.'

5 yet (E)because this widow bothers me, I will (b)give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will (c)(F)wear me out.’”

5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

5 yet because this widow keeps(E) pestering me,(a) I will give her justice, so she doesn’t wear me out(b) by her persistent coming.’”

5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice. Otherwise, she will keep coming and wear me out.'"

6 And the Lord said, 'Hear ye what the unrighteous judge saith:

6 And (G)the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge *said;

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.

6 Then the Lord added, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

7 and shall not God execute the justice to His choice ones, who are crying unto Him day and night -- bearing long in regard to them?

7 now, will not God (H)bring about justice for His (I)elect who cry to Him day and night, (d)and will He (J)delay long over them?

7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

7 Will not God grant justice(F) to His elect(G) who cry out to Him day and night?(H) Will He delay(I) to help them?(c)

7 Won't God grant his chosen people justice when they cry out to him day and night? Is he slow to help them?

8 I say to you, that He will execute the justice to them quickly; but the Son of Man having come, shall he find the faith upon the earth?'

8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, (K)will He find (e)faith on the earth?”

8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

8 I tell you that He will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes,(J) will He find that faith(d) on earth?”

8 I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

The Parable Of The Pharisee And The Tax Collector

9 And he spake also unto certain who have been trusting in themselves that they were righteous, and have been despising the rest, this simile:

9 And He also told this parable to some people who (L)trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and (M)viewed others with contempt:

9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

9 He(K) also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves(L) that they were righteous(M) and looked down(N) on everyone else:

9 Jesus also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves, thinking they were righteous, but who looked down on everyone else:

10 'Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-gatherer;

10 “Two men (N)went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

10 “Two men went up to the temple complex to pray,(O) one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

10 "Two men went up to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

11 the Pharisee having stood by himself, thus prayed: God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, rapacious, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax-gatherer;

11 The Pharisee (O)stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

11 The Pharisee took his stand(e)(P) and was praying like this: ‘God, I thank You that I’m not like other people(f) —greedy,(Q) unrighteous,(R) adulterers,(S) or even like this tax collector.

11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, "O God, I thank you that I'm not like other people thieves, dishonest people, adulterers, or even this tax collector.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all things -- as many as I possess.

12 I (P)fast twice a week; I (Q)pay tithes of all that I get.’

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

12 I fast(T) twice a week; I give a tenth(g)(U) of everything I get.’

12 I fast twice a week, and I give a tenth of my entire income.'

13 And the tax-gatherer, having stood afar off, would not even the eyes lift up to the heaven, but was smiting on his breast, saying, God be propitious to me -- the sinner!

13 But the tax collector, (R)standing some distance away, (S)was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but (T)was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be (f)merciful to me, the sinner!’

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

13 “But the tax collector, standing far off,(V) would not even raise his eyes to heaven(W) but kept striking his chest(h)(X) and saying, ‘God, turn Your wrath from me(i)(Y)—a sinner!’(Z)

13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven. Instead, he continued to beat his chest and said, "O God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!'

14 I say to you, this one went down declared righteous, to his house, rather than that one: for every one who is exalting himself shall be humbled, and he who is humbling himself shall be exalted.'

14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; (U)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

14 I tell you, this one went down to his house justified(AA) rather than the other; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”(AB)

14 I tell you, this man, rather than the other one, went down to his home justified, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the person who humbles himself will be exalted."

Little Children Brought To Jesus

15 And they were bringing near also the babes, that he may touch them, and the disciples having seen did rebuke them,

15 (V)And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.

15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

15 Some(AC) people were even bringing infants to Him so He might touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

15 Now some people were even bringing their infants to Jesus to have him touch them. But when the disciples saw this, they sternly told the people not to do that.

16 and Jesus having called them near, said, 'Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the reign of God;

16 But Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

16 Jesus, however, invited them: “Let the little children come to Me,(AD) and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

16 Jesus, however, called for the children and said, "Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of God belongs to people like these.

17 verily I say to you, Whoever may not receive the reign of God as a little child, may not enter into it.'

17 Truly I say to you, (W)whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”

17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

17 I assure you:(AE) Whoever does not welcome(AF) the kingdom of God like a little child(AG) will never enter it.”

17 I tell all of you with certainty, whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never get into it at all."

A Rich Young Man

18 And a certain ruler questioned him, saying, 'Good teacher, what having done -- shall I inherit life age-during?'

18 (X)A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

18 A(AH) ruler(AI) asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(AJ)

18 Then an official asked Jesus, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

19 And Jesus said to him, 'Why me dost thou call good? no one is good, except One -- God;

19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.

19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

19 “Why do you call Me good?” Jesus asked him. “No one is good but One—God.

19 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "Nobody is good except for one God.

20 the commands thou hast known: Thou mayest not commit adultery, Thou mayest do no murder, Thou mayest not steal, Thou mayest not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.'

20 You know the commandments, ‘(Y)Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”

20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

20 You know the commandments:Do not commit adultery;do not murder;do not steal;do not bear false witness;honor your father and mother.(AK)(j)

20 You know the commandments: "Never commit adultery. Never murder. Never steal. Never give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.'"

21 And he said, 'All these I did keep from my youth;'

21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”

21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

21 “I have kept all these from my youth,” he said.

21 The official replied, "I have kept all of these since I was a young man."

22 and having heard these things, Jesus said to him, 'Yet one thing to thee is lacking; all things -- as many as thou hast -- sell, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, be following me;'

22 When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; (Z)sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have (AA)treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

22 When Jesus heard this, He told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor,(AL) and you will have treasure in heaven.(AM) Then come, follow Me.”(AN)

22 When Jesus heard this, he told him, "You still need to do one thing. Sell everything you have and give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me."

23 and he, having heard these things, became very sorrowful, for he was exceeding rich.

23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

23 After he heard this, he became extremely sad,(AO) because he was very rich.

23 But when the official heard this he became sad, because he was very rich.

24 And Jesus having seen him become very sorrowful, said, 'How hardly shall those having riches enter into the reign of God!

24 And Jesus looked at him and said, (AB)How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!

24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

24 Seeing that he became sad,(k) Jesus said, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!

24 So when Jesus saw how sad he was, he said, "How hard it is for rich people to get into the kingdom of God!

25 for it is easier for a camel through the eye of a needle to enter, than for a rich man into the reign of God to enter.'

25 For (AC)it is easier for a camel to (g)go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 Indeed, it's easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."

Who Can Be Saved?

26 And those who heard, said, 'And who is able to be saved?'

26 They who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”

26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?

26 Those who heard this asked, “Then who can be saved?”(AP)

26 Those who were listening to Jesus asked, "Then who can be saved?"

27 and he said, 'The things impossible with men are possible with God.'

27 But He said, (AD)The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.”

27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

27 He replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”(AQ)

27 Jesus replied, "The things that are impossible for people are possible for God."

28 And Peter said, 'Lo, we left all, and did follow thee;'

28 Peter said, “Behold, (AE)we have left (h)our own homes and followed You.”

28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.

28 Then Peter said, “Look, we have left what we had and followed(AR) You.”

28 Then Peter said, "See, we have left everything we have and followed you."

29 and he said to them, 'Verily I say to you, that there is not one who left house, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children, for the sake of the reign of God,

29 And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, (AF)there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,

29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,

29 So He said to them, “I assure you: There is no one who has left a house, wife or brothers, parents or children because of the kingdom of God,

29 Jesus told them, "I tell all of you with certainty, there is no one who has left his home, wife, brothers, parents, or children because of the kingdom of God

30 who may not receive back manifold more in this time, and in the coming age, life age-during.'

30 who will not receive many times as much at this time and in (AG)the age to come, eternal life.”

30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

30 who will not receive many times more at this time,(AS) and eternal life in the age to come.”

30 who will not receive many times as much in this world, as well as eternal life in the age to come."

Jesus Predicts His Death And Resurrection A Third Time

31 And having taken the twelve aside, he said unto them, 'Lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things shall be completed -- that have been written through the prophets -- to the Son of Man,

31 (AH)Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, (AI)we are going up to Jerusalem, and (AJ)all things which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.

31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

31 Then(AT) He took the Twelve aside and told them, “Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem.(AU) Everything that is written(AV) through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.(AW)

31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, "Pay attention! We're going up to Jerusalem. Everything written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled,

32 for he shall be delivered up to the nations, and shall be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon,

32 (AK)For He will be (i)handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and mistreated and spit upon,

32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

32 For He will be handed over to the Gentiles,(AX) and He will be mocked,(AY) insulted, spit(AZ) on;

32 because he'll be handed over to the unbelievers, and will be mocked, insulted, and spit on.

33 and having scourged they shall put him to death, and on the third day he shall rise again.'

33 and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the third day He will rise again.”

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

33 and after they flog Him, they will kill Him, and He will rise on the third day.”(BA)

33 After they have whipped him, they'll kill him, but on the third day he'll rise again."

34 And they none of these things understood, and this saying was hid from them, and they were not knowing the things said.

34 But (AL)the disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.

34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

34 They understood none of these things.(BB) This saying(l)(BC) was hidden(BD) from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

34 But they didn't understand any of this. What he said was hidden from them, and they didn't know what he meant.

A Blind Man Healed At Jericho

35 And it came to pass, in his coming nigh to Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting beside the way begging,

35 (AM)As (j)(AN)Jesus was approaching Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging.

35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

35 As(BE) He drew near Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging.

35 As Jesus was approaching Jericho, there was a blind man sitting by the road begging.

36 and having heard a multitude going by, he was inquiring what this may be,

36 Now hearing a crowd going by, he began to inquire what this was.

36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

36 Hearing a crowd passing by, he inquired what this meant.

36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.

37 and they brought him word that Jesus the Nazarene doth pass by,

37 They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

37 “Jesus the Nazarene(BF) is passing by,” they told him.

37 They told him that Jesus from Nazareth was coming by.

38 and he cried out, saying, 'Jesus, Son of David, deal kindly with me;'

38 And he called out, saying, “Jesus, (AO)Son of David, have mercy on me!”

38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

38 So he called out,(BG) “Jesus, Son of David,(BH) have mercy(BI) on me!”

38 So he shouted, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

39 and those going before were rebuking him, that he might be silent, but he was much more crying out, 'Son of David, deal kindly with me.'

39 Those who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out all the more, “(AP)Son of David, have mercy on me!”

39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.

39 Then those in front told him to keep quiet,(m) but he kept crying out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

39 The people at the front of the crowd sternly told him to be quiet, but he started shouting even louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"

40 And Jesus having stood, commanded him to be brought unto him, and he having come nigh, he questioned him,

40 And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him,

40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

40 Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him. When he drew near, He asked him,

40 Then Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,

41 saying, 'What wilt thou I shall do to thee?' and he said, 'Sir, that I may receive sight.'

41 “What do you want Me to do for you?” And he said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!”

41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

41 “What do you want Me to do for you?”“Lord,” he said, “I want to see!”

41 "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to see again!"

42 And Jesus said to him, 'Receive thy sight; thy faith hath saved thee;'

42 And Jesus said to him, (k)Receive your sight; (AQ)your faith has (l)made you well.”

42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

42 “Receive your sight!”(BJ) Jesus told him. “Your faith has healed you.”(n)(BK)

42 So Jesus told him, "See again! Your faith has made you well."

43 and presently he did receive sight, and was following him, glorifying God; and all the people, having seen, did give praise to God.

43 Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, (AR)glorifying God; and when (AS)all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.

43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

43 Instantly he could see, and he began to follow Him, glorifying God.(BL) All the people,(BM) when they saw it, gave praise to God.

43 Immediately the man could see again and began to follow Jesus, glorifying God. All the people saw this and gave praise to God.
