and Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary by whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, [but] before they came together, she was found {to be pregnant} by the Holy Spirit.
So Joseph her husband, being righteous and not wanting to disgrace her, intended to divorce her secretly.
But [as] he was considering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary [as] your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife home, for what is begotten in her is by the Holy Spirit; and she will bear a son, and you are to call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
And Joseph, [when he] woke up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and he took his wife
Now [after] they had gone away, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him."

So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock; and after rolling a great stone against the opening of the tomb, he went away.

There was a garden at the place where Jesus had been crucified, and in the garden was a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So because it was the Jewish Preparation day, and the tomb was close by, they put Jesus there.
and when he learned from the captain that he was, he gave Joseph permission to take the body. And he bought a linen sheet and took him down from the cross and wrapped him in the sheet, and laid him in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the doorway of the tomb. And Mary of Magdala and Mary, Joses' mother, were looking on and saw where he was put.
Then he took it down from the cross and wrapped it in linen and laid it in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no one had yet been laid. It was the Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was just beginning. The women who had followed Jesus from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was put there. Then they went home, and prepared spices and perfumes. On the Sabbath they rested in obedience to the commandment,
and laid it in a new tomb that belonged to him, that he had cut in the rock, and he rolled a great stone over the doorway of the tomb, and went away.

So when Joseph awoke from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had directed him, and took his wife to his home. But he did not live with her as a husband until she had had a son, and he named the child Jesus.

The child's father and mother were astonished at what Symeon said. And he gave them his blessing, and said to Mary, the child's mother, "This child is destined to cause the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a portent that will be much debated??35 you yourself will be pierced to the heart??nd so the thoughts of many minds will be revealed." There was also a prophetess there named Hannah, the daughter of Phanuel, who belonged to the tribe of Asher. She was very old, for after her girlhood she had been married for seven years, and she had been a widow until she was now eighty-four. She never left the Temple, but worshipped night and day with fasting and prayer. She came up just at that time and gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were living in expectation of the liberation of Jerusalem. When they had done everything that the Law of the Lord required, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
