And Jesus was loving Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus,
Therefore when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed indeed two days in the place where He was:
These things he said, and after this he saith to them, 'Lazarus our friend hath fallen asleep, but I go on that I may awake him;'
though Jesus meant it of Lazarus's death: but they understood it of the natural rest in sleep.
Then, therefore, Jesus said to them freely, 'Lazarus hath died;
"Lazarus is dead; and for your sakes I am glad I was not there, in order that you may believe. Come, let us go to him."
Now when Jesus came, he made the discovery that Lazarus had been put into the earth four days before.
But some of them said, "This is the man who caused the blind man to see! Couldn't he have done something to keep Lazarus from dying?"
So, they removed the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, thank you for hearing me. [Note: Jesus had already prayed for and been assured of Lazarus' resurrection].
After saying this, he shouted with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"
Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived in Bethany, where Lazarus lived, the man whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at the table with him.
When the large crowd of Jews realized that he was there, they came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
So the high priests planned to kill Lazarus, too,
So the crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify to what they had seen.
But the crowd that went out to meet Jesus [i.e., as He entered Jerusalem] did so because they had heard about Him performing this [miraculous] sign [i.e., of raising Lazarus].

Then they took away the stone; and Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee, because Thou hast heard Me. I know that Thou dost always hear Me; but on account of the multitude standing around I spoke, in order that they might believe that Thou didst send Me. And Jesus hearing said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it. Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus, with Divine love. Therefore when He heard that he was sick, He then remained two days in the place in which He was. But Jesus spoke concerning his death: and they thought that He spoke concerning the rest of sleep. Then however Jesus spoke to them openly, Lazarus is dead,
