The People Complain

1 Then all the community {lifted up their voices}, and the people wept during that night.

1 Then all the congregation (a)lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept (b)that night.

1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

1 Then the whole community broke into loud cries, and the people wept that night.

1 At this, the entire assembly complained, started to shout, and cried through the rest of that night.

2 And all the {Israelites} grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert!

2 All the sons of Israel (A)grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, “(B)Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!

2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

2 All the Israelites complained about Moses and Aaron,(A) and the whole community told them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had died in this wilderness!

2 All the Israelis complained against Moses and Aaron. Then the entire assembly responded, "We wish that we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness.

3 Why did Yahweh bring us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little children will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return [to] Egypt?"

3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, (C)to fall by the sword? (D)Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”

3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to die by the sword? Our wives and little children will become plunder.(B) Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?”(C)

3 What's the point in the LORD bringing us to this land? To die by the sword so our wives and children would become war victims? Wouldn't it be better for us to return to Egypt?"

4 {They said to each other}, "Let us appoint a leader, and we will return [to] Egypt."

4 So they said to one another, “(E)Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”

4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

4 So they said to one another, “Let’s appoint a leader and go back to Egypt.”

4 Then they told each other, "Let's assign a leader and go back to Egypt."

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces {before} the assembly of the community of the {Israelites}.

5 (F)Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in the presence of all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell down with their faces to the ground in front of the whole assembly of the Israelite community.

5 Moses and Aaron fell on their faces in front of the entire assembly of the congregation of Israel.

6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the explorers [of] the land, tore their garments.

6 Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes;

6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who scouted out the land, tore their clothes

6 Nun's son Joshua and Jephunneh's son Caleb, who had accompanied the others who also had explored the land, tore their clothes

7 And they said to all the community of the {Israelites}, "The land that we went through to explore [is] an {exceptionally good land}.

7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, “(G)The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land.

7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

7 and said to the entire Israelite community: “The land we passed through and explored is an extremely good land.(D)

7 and attempted to reason with the entire congregation of Israel. They told them, "The land that we went through and explored is very, very good.

8 If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and he will give it to us, a land that [is] flowing [with] milk and honey.

8 (H)If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us—(I)a land which flows with milk and honey.

8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

8 If the Lord is pleased with us, He will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey,(E) and give it to us.

8 If the LORD is pleased with us, he'll bring us into this land and give it to us. It flows with milk and honey.

9 Only do not rebel against Yahweh, and you will not fear the people of the land, because they will be our food. {Their protection} has been turned from them; Yahweh [is] with us. You should not fear them."

9 Only (J)do not rebel against the Lord; and do not (K)fear the people of the land, for they will be our (c)prey. Their (d)protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”

9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

9 Only don’t rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land, for we will devour them.(F) Their protection(G) has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us. Don’t be afraid of them!”

9 However, don't rebel against the LORD or be afraid of the people who live in the land, because we'll gobble them right up. Their defenses will collapse, because the LORD is with us. You are not to be afraid of them."

10 And all the community said to stone them with stones, but the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of assembly among the {Israelites}.

10 (L)But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. Then (M)the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the sons of Israel.

10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

10 While the whole community threatened to stone them,(H) the glory of the Lord appeared to all the Israelites at the tent of meeting.

10 But the entire congregation was talking about stoning them to death.

God's Judgment Of Israel's Rebellion

11 And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, [and] in all the signs that I have done in their midst?

11 (N)The Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people spurn Me? And how long will (O)they not believe in Me, despite all the signs which I have performed in their midst?

11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

11 The Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people despise Me? How long will they not trust in Me despite all the signs I have performed among them?(I)

11 Suddenly, the glory of the LORD appeared at the Tent of Meeting to all of the Israelis. "How long will this people keep on spurning me and refusing to trust me, despite all the miracles that I've done among them?" the LORD asked Moses.

12 I will strike them with disease, and I will dispossess them; I will make you into a greater and stronger nation than them."

12 I will smite them with (e)(P)pestilence and dispossess them, and I (Q)will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they.”

12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

12 I will strike them with a plague and destroy them. Then I will make you into a greater and mightier nation than they are.”(J)

12 "That's why I'm going to attack them with pestilence and disinherit them. Instead, I'll make you a great nation even mightier than they are!"

Moses Intercedes For The People

13 And Moses said to Yahweh, "Then the Egyptians will hear that you brought up this people from their midst in your power,

13 (R)But Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for by Your strength You brought up this people from their midst,

13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

13 But Moses replied to the Lord, “The Egyptians will hear about it, for by Your strength You brought up this people from them.

13 But Moses responded to the LORD, "When Egypt hears that you've brought this people out from among them with a mighty demonstration of power,

14 and they will {tell it} to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, [are] in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud [is] standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire [at] night.

14 and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that You, O Lord, are in the midst of this people, for (S)You, O Lord, are seen eye to eye, while Your cloud stands over them; and You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.

14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

14 They will tell it to the inhabitants of this land.(K) They have heard that You, Lord, are among these people, how You, Lord, are seen face to face, how Your cloud stands over them, and how You go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night.(L)

14 they'll also proclaim to the inhabitants of this land that they've heard you're among this people, LORD, whom they've seen face to face, since your cloud stands guard over them. You've guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and with a pillar of fire by night.

15 But if you destroy this people {all at once}, the nations that will have heard your message will say,

15 Now if You slay this people as one man, (T)then the nations who have heard of Your fame will (f)say,

15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

15 If You kill this people with a single blow,(a)(M) the nations that have heard of Your fame(N) will declare,

15 But if you slaughter this people all at the same time, then the nations who heard about your fame will say,

16 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.'

16 ‘Because the Lord (U)could not bring this people into the land which He promised them by oath, therefore He slaughtered them in the wilderness.’

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

16 ‘Since the Lord wasn’t able to bring this people into the land He swore to give them,(O) He has slaughtered them in the wilderness.’(P)

16 "The LORD slaughtered this people in the wilderness because he wasn't able to bring them to the land that he promised them.'

17 But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke,

17 But now, I pray, let the power of the Lord be great, just as You have (g)declared,

17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

17 “So now, may my Lord’s power be magnified just as You have spoken:

17 "Now, let the power of the LORD be magnified, just as you promised when you said,

18 'Yahweh [is] {slow to anger} and great of loyal love, {forgiving} sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.'

18 (V)The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but (W)He will by no means clear the guilty, (X)visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children (h)to the third and the fourth generations.’

18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

18 The Lord is slow to anger and rich in faithful love,(Q) forgiving wrongdoing and rebellion.(R) But He will not leave the guilty unpunished,(S) bringing the consequences of the fathers’ wrongdoing on the children to the third and fourth generation.(T)

18 "The LORD is slow to anger and abundant in faithful love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he won't acquit the guilty. He recalls the iniquity of fathers to the third and fourth generation.'

19 Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you {forgave} this people, from Egypt until now."

19 (Y)Pardon, I pray, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your lovingkindness, just as You also have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

19 Please pardon the wrongdoing of this people, in keeping with the greatness of Your faithful love,(U) just as You have forgiven them from Egypt until now.”

19 "Forgive, please, the iniquity of this people, according to your great, faithful love, in the same way that you've carried this people from Egypt to this place."

God Promises Judgment

20 Yahweh said, "I have forgiven [them] according to your word;

20 So the Lord said, “(Z)I have pardoned them according to your word;

20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

20 The Lord responded, “I have pardoned them as you requested.

20 The LORD responded, "I've forgiven them based on what you've said.

21 but as I [am] alive, the glory of Yahweh will fill all the earth.

21 but indeed, (AA)as I live, (i)(AB)all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord.

21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

21 Yet as surely as I live and as the whole earth is filled with the Lord’s glory,(V)

21 But just as I live, and just as the whole earth will be filled with the LORD's glory,

22 But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice,

22 Surely (AC)all the men who have seen My glory and My signs which I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet (AD)have put Me to the test these ten times and have not listened to My voice,

22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

22 none of the men who have seen My glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested Me these 10 times and did not obey Me,

22 none of those men who saw my glory and watched my miracles that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness even though they've tested me these ten times and never listened to my voice

23 they will not see the land that I swore by oath to their ancestors, and all those who despised me will not see it.

23 (AE)shall by no means see the land which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who spurned Me see it.

23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

23 will ever see the land I swore to give their fathers.(W) None of those who have despised Me(X) will see it.

23 will ever see the land that I promised to their ancestors. Those who spurned me won't see it.

24 But my servant Caleb, because another spirit was with him, he remained true after me, and I will bring him into the land that {he entered}, and his offspring will take possession of it.

24 But My servant Caleb, (AF)because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, (j)(AG)I will bring into the land (k)which he entered, and his (l)descendants shall take possession of it.

24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

24 But since My servant Caleb has a different spirit and has followed Me completely, I will bring him into the land where he has gone, and his descendants will inherit it.(Y)

24 Now as to my servant Caleb, because a different spirit is within him and he has remained true to me, I'm going to bring him into the land that he explored, and his descendants are to inherit it.

25 And the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; tomorrow turn and set out [for] the desert [by] way of the {Red Sea}."

25 (AH)Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; turn tomorrow and set out to the wilderness by the way of the (m)Red Sea.”

25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

25 Since the Amalekites and Canaanites are living in the lowlands,(b) turn back tomorrow and head for the wilderness in the direction of the Red Sea.”(Z)

25 Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite live in the valley. Tomorrow, turn and then travel to the wilderness in the direction of the Reed Sea."

The Lord Punishes The Israelites

26 And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

26 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

26 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

26 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:

26 Then the LORD told Moses and Aaron,

27 "How long [will I bear] this evil community who are grumbling against me? I have heard the grumbling of the {Israelites} which {they are making} against me.

27 “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who are (AI)grumbling against Me? I have heard the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they are (n)making against Me.

27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

27 “How long must I endure this evil community that keeps complaining about Me? I have heard the Israelites’ complaints that they make against Me.(AA)

27 "How long will this wicked assembly keep complaining about me? I've heard the complaints of the Israelis that they've been murmuring against me.

28 Say to them, 'Surely as I live,' {declares} Yahweh, 'just as you spoke {in my hearing}, so I will do to you;

28 Say to them, ‘(AJ)As I live,’ says the Lord, ‘just as (AK)you have spoken in My hearing, so I will surely do to you;

28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

28 Tell them: As surely as I live,” this is the Lord’s declaration, “I will do to you exactly as I heard you say.

28 So tell them that as long as I live consider this to be an oracle from the LORD as certainly as you've spoken right into my ears, that's how I'm going to treat you.

29 in this desert your corpses will fall, and all your counted ones, according to all your number, from {twenty years old} and above who grumbled against me.

29 (AL)your corpses will fall in this wilderness, even all (AM)your (o)numbered men, according to your complete number from twenty years old and upward, who have grumbled against Me.

29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

29 Your corpses will fall in this wilderness—all of you who were registered in the census, the entire number of you 20 years old or more(AB)—because you have complained about Me.

29 Your corpses will fall in this wilderness every single one of you who has been counted among you, according to your number from 20 years and above, who complained against me.

30 You [yourselves] will not come into the land that {I swore by oath} to make you to dwell in it, but Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

30 Surely you shall not come into the land in which I (p)swore to settle you, (AN)except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

30 I swear that none of you will enter the land I promised(c) to settle you in, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

30 You will certainly never enter the land about which I made an oath with my uplifted hand to settle you in it, except for Jephunneh's son Caleb and Nun's son Joshua.

31 But your little children, whom you said would be plunder, I will bring them, and they will know the land that you rejected.

31 (AO)Your children, however, whom you said would become a prey—I will bring them in, and they will know the land which you have rejected.

31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

31 I will bring your children whom you said would become plunder(AC) into the land you rejected, and they will enjoy it.(AD)

31 However, I'll bring your little ones the ones whom you claimed would become war victims into the land so that they'll know by experience the land that you've rejected.

32 But for you, all your corpses will fall in this desert.

32 (AP)But as for you, your corpses will fall in this wilderness.

32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

32 But as for you, your corpses will fall in this wilderness.

32 "Now as for you, your corpses will fall in this wilderness

33 And your children will be shepherds in the desert forty years, and you will bear your unfaithfulness until {all your corpses have fallen} in the desert.

33 Your sons shall be shepherds for (AQ)forty years in the wilderness, and they will (q)suffer for your (r)unfaithfulness, until your corpses (s)lie in the wilderness.

33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

33 Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for 40 years and bear the penalty for your acts of unfaithfulness until all your corpses lie scattered in the wilderness.

33 and your children will wander throughout the wilderness for 40 years. They'll bear the consequences of your idolatries until your bodies are entirely consumed in the wilderness.

34 According to the number of the days that you explored the land, forty days, {a day for each year}, you will bear your sins forty years, and you will know my opposition.'

34 According to the (AR)number of days which you spied out the land, forty days, for every day you shall bear your (t)guilt a year, even forty years, and you will know My opposition.

34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

34 You will bear the consequences of your sins 40 years based on the number of the 40 days that you scouted the land, a year for each day.(d)(AE) You will know My displeasure.(e)

34 Just as you explored the land for 40 days, you'll bear the consequences of your iniquities for 40 years one year for each day as you experience my hostility.

35 I, Yahweh, have spoken; I will surely do this to all this evil community who has banded together against me. In this desert they will come to an end, and there they will die."

35 (AS)I, the Lord, have spoken, surely this I will do to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. In this wilderness they shall be destroyed, and there they will die.’”

35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

35 I, Yahweh, have spoken. I swear that I will do this to the entire evil community that has conspired against Me.(AF) They will come to an end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”(AG)

35 I, the LORD, have spoken. I will indeed do this to this evil congregation, who gathered together against me. They'll be eliminated in this wilderness and will surely die."

36 As for the men whom Moses sent to explore the land, who returned and made the community grumble against him by spreading a report over the land,

36 (AT)As for the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land and who returned and made all the congregation grumble against him by bringing out a bad report concerning the land,

36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

36 So the men Moses sent to scout out the land, and who returned and incited the entire community to complain about him by spreading a negative report about the land—

36 After this, the men whom Moses sent out to explore the land, who returned and made the whole congregation complain against him by bringing an evil report concerning the land,

37 the men who spread the evil report of the land died by the plague {before Yahweh}.

37 even (AU)those men who brought out the very bad report of the land died by a (AV)plague before the Lord.

37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

37 those men who spread the negative report about the land were struck down by the Lord.

37 and who produced an evil report about the land, died of pestilence in the LORD's presence.

38 But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh lived from [among] the men who went to explore the land.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive out of those men who went to spy out the land.

38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

38 Only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive of those men who went to scout out the land.

38 However, Nun's son Joshua and Jephunneh's son Caleb, who had explored the land, remained alive.

Israel Defeated In Battle

39 And Moses spoke words to all the {Israelites}, and the people mourned greatly.

39 When Moses spoke (AW)these words to all the sons of Israel, (AX)the people mourned greatly.

39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

39 When Moses reported these words to all the Israelites, the people were overcome with grief.

39 After Moses had told all of this to the Israelis, the people deeply mourned.

40 They rose early in the morning and went to the top of the mount, saying, "Here we are. We will go up to the place that Yahweh said, because we have sinned."

40 In the morning, however, they rose up early and went up to the (u)ridge of the hill country, saying, “(AY)Here we are; (v)we have indeed sinned, but we will go up to the place which the Lord has promised.”

40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

40 They got up early the next morning and went up the ridge of the hill country, saying, “Let’s go to the place the Lord promised, for we were wrong.”(AH)

40 So they got up early the next morning and traveled to the top of the mountain, telling themselves, "Look, we're here and we're going to go up to the place that the LORD had spoken about, even though we've sinned."

41 But Moses said, "Why [are] you going against the command of Yahweh? It will not succeed.

41 But Moses said, “(AZ)Why then are you transgressing the (w)commandment of the Lord, when it will not succeed?

41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

41 But Moses responded, “Why are you going against the Lord’s command? It won’t succeed.

41 But Moses asked them, "Why do you continue to sin against what the LORD said? Don't you know that you can never succeed?

42 You should not go up because Yahweh is not in your midst; do not let yourselves be defeated in the presence of your enemies,

42 (BA)Do not go up, or you will be struck down before your enemies, for the Lord is not among you.

42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

42 Don’t go, because the Lord is not among you and you will be defeated by your enemies.

42 Don't go up, since you know that the LORD is no longer with you. You'll be attacked right in front of your own enemies.

43 because the Amalekites and the Canaanites [are] there {before you}, and you will fall by the sword; because you have turned [back] from Yahweh, and Yahweh will not be with you."

43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites will be there in front of you, and you will fall by the sword, inasmuch as you have turned back from following the Lord. And the Lord will not be with you.”

43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

43 The Amalekites and Canaanites are right in front of you, and you will fall by the sword. The Lord won’t be with you, since you have turned from following Him.”

43 The Amalekites and Canaanites are there waiting for you. You'll die violently, since you've turned your back and have stopped following the LORD. The LORD won't be with you."

44 But they dared to go to the top of the mountain, and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and Moses did not depart from the midst of the camp.

44 But they went up heedlessly to the (x)ridge of the hill country; neither (BB)the ark of the covenant of the Lord nor Moses left the camp.

44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

44 But they dared to go up the ridge of the hill country, even though the ark of the Lord’s covenant and Moses did not leave the camp.

44 But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain, even though the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and Moses didn't leave the camp.

45 So the Amalekites and the Canaanites who were living on the mountain descended, and they beat them down, up to Hormah.

45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down, and struck them and beat them down as far as (BC)Hormah.

45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

45 Then the Amalekites and Canaanites who lived in that part of the hill country came down, attacked them, and routed them as far as Hormah.(AI)

45 The Amalekites came down, accompanied by some Canaanites who lived in the mountains. They attacked and defeated them even while the Israelis were retreating to Hormah.
