A Wise Son Lives Righteously

1 A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.

1 A wise son accepts his father's discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

1 A wise son responds to his father’s discipline,but a mocker doesn’t listen to rebuke.

1 A wise son heeds a father's correction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.

2 By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence.

2 From the fruit of a man's mouth he enjoys good, But the desire of the treacherous is violence.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

2 From the words of his mouth,a man will enjoy good things,(A)but treacherous people have an appetite for violence.(B)

2 From the fruit of his words a man receives benefit, but the treacherous crave violence.

3 He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

3 The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

3 The one who guards his mouth protects his life;(C)the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin.(D)

4 The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.

6 Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

6 Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless, But wickedness subverts the sinner.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.

7 There is one who pretends to be rich, but has nothing; Another pretends to be poor, but has great wealth.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.

12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

12 Delayed hope makes the heart sick,but fulfilled desire is a tree of life.(O)

13 Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command will be rewarded.

13 The one who despises the word will be in debt to it, But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

13 The one who has contempt for instruction will pay the penalty,(P)but the one who respects a command will be rewarded.(Q)

13 Anyone who despises a word of advice will pay for it, but whoever heeds a command will be rewarded.

14 The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.

14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 Good understanding wins favor; but the way of the unfaithful is hard.

16 Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.

17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.

17 A wicked messenger falls into adversity, But a faithful envoy brings healing.

18 Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

18 Poverty and disgrace come to thosewho ignore discipline,but the one who accepts correction will be honored.(W)

19 Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.

19 Desire realized is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to turn away from evil.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

19 Desire fulfilled is sweet to the taste,but to turn from evil(X)is an abomination to fools.

19 Fulfilled longing is sweet to the soul, but avoiding evil is detestable to the fool.

20 One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.

21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.

22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored for the righteous.

23 An abundance of food is in poor people's fields, but injustice sweeps it away.

23 Abundant food is in the fallow ground of the poor, But it is swept away by injustice.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

23 The uncultivated field of the poor yields abundant food,but without justice, it is swept away.

23 The field of the poor may produce much food, but it can be swept away through injustice.

24 One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is careful to discipline him.

24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.
