1 BOOK THE FOURTH Lord! a dwelling-place, hast, thou, become to us, From generation to generation:

1 {A Prayer of Moses the man of God.} Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

1 A Prayer of (a)Moses, the man of God.Lord, You have been our (b)(A)dwelling place in all generations.

1 BOOK IV(Psalms 90–106)A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, You have been our refuge(a)in every generation.(A)

1 Lord, you've been our refuge from generation to generation.

2 Thou causest man to return unto dust, And hast said - Return, ye sons of Adam!

2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

2 Before (B)the mountains were born(c)Or You (C)gave birth to the earth and the world,Even (D)from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

2 Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God.(B)

2 Before the mountains were formed or the earth and the world were brought forth, you are God from eternity to eternity.

3 For, a thousand years, in thine eyes, are , As yesterday, in that it passed away, Or as a watch in the night.

3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

3 You (E)turn man back into dustAnd say, “Return, O children of men.”

3 You return mankind to the dust, saying, “Return, descendants of Adam.”(C)

3 You return people to dust merely by saying, "Return, you mortals!"

4 Thou hast snatched them away, A sleep, do they become, In the morning, they are like grass that shooteth up,

4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

4 For (F)a thousand years in Your sightAre like (G)yesterday when it passes by,(d)Or as a (H)watch in the night.

4 For in Your sight a thousand yearsare like yesterday that passes by,like a few hours of the night.(D)

4 One thousand years in your sight are but a single day that passes by, just like a night watch.

5 In the morning, it sprouteth and shooteth up, By the evening, it is cut down and withered.

5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

5 You (I)have (e)swept them away like a flood, they (f)(J)fall asleep; In the morning they are like (K)grass which (g)sprouts anew.

5 You end their lives;(b) they sleep.(E)They are like grass that grows in the morning—

5 You will sweep them away while they are asleep by morning they are like growing grass.

6 For we are consumed in thine anger, And, in thy wrath, are we dismayed;

6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

6 In the morning it (L)flourishes and (h)sprouts anew;Toward evening it (M)fades and (N)withers away.

6 in the morning it sprouts and grows;by evening it withers and dries up.(F)

6 In the morning it blossoms and is renewed, but toward evening, it fades and withers.

7 Thou hast set, Our iniquities before thee, Our secret near the luminary of thy face.

7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

7 For we have been (O)consumed by Your angerAnd by Your wrath we have been (i)dismayed.

7 For we are consumed by Your anger;we are terrified by Your wrath.(G)

7 Indeed, we are consumed by your anger and terrified by your wrath.

8 For, all our days, decline in thy wrath, - We end our years like a sigh.

8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

8 You have (P)placed our iniquities before You,Our (Q)secret sins in the light of Your presence.

8 You have set our unjust ways before You,our secret sins in the light of Your presence.(H)

8 You have set our iniquities before you, what we have concealed in the light of your presence.

9 The days of our years, have, in them, three score years and ten, And, if, by reason of strength, they have fourscore years, Yet, their boast, is labour and sorrow, For it hath passed quickly, and we have flown away.

9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

9 For (R)all our days have declined in Your fury;We have finished our years like a (j)sigh.

9 For all our days ebb away under Your wrath;we end our years like a sigh.(I)

9 All our days pass away in your wrath; our years fade away and end like a sigh.

10 Who knoweth the strength of thine anger? Even, according to the fear of thee, is thy wrath!

10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

10 As for the days of our (k)life, (l)they contain seventy years,Or if due to strength, (S)eighty years,Yet their pride is but (T)labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we (U)fly away.

10 Our lives last(c) seventy yearsor, if we are strong, eighty years.Even the best of them are(d) struggle and sorrow;indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away.(J)

10 We live for 70 years, or 80 years if we're healthy, yet even in the prime years there are troubles and sorrow. They pass by quickly and we fly away.

11 How to number our days, so grant us to know, That we may win us a heart that hath wisdom.

11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

11 Who (m)understands the (V)power of Your angerAnd Your fury, according to the (W)fear (n)that is due You?

11 Who understands the power of Your anger?Your wrath matches the fear that is due You.(K)

11 Who can know the intensity of your anger? Because our fear of you matches your wrath,

12 Return, Yahweh, oh how long? And have compassion upon thy servants;

12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

12 Teach us to number our days carefullyso that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.(e)(L)

12 teach us to keep account of our days so we may develop inner wisdom.

13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

13 Do (Z)return, O Lord; (AA)how long will it be?And (p)be (AB)sorry for Your servants.

13 Lord—how long?Turn and have compassion on Your servants.(M)

13 Please return, LORD! When will it be? Comfort your servants.

14 Make us glad, according to, The days thou hast humbled us, The years we have seen misfortune:

14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

14 O (AC)satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness,That we may (AD)sing for joy and be glad all our days.

15 Let thy work, appear unto thy servants, And, thy majesty, upon their children;

15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

15 (AE)Make us glad (q)according to the days You have afflicted us,And the (AF)years we have seen (r)evil.

15 Make us rejoice for as many days as You have humbled us,for as many years as we have seen adversity.(O)

15 Cause us to rejoice throughout the time when you have afflicted us, the years when we have known trouble.

16 And let the delightfulness of Adonay our God be upon us, - And, the work of our hands, establish thou upon us, Yea, the work of our hands, establish thou it.

16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

16 Let Your (AG)work appear to Your servantsAnd Your (AH)majesty (s)to their children.

16 Let Your work be seen by Your servants, and Your splendor by their children.(P)
