1 Remind your hearers to respect and obey the Powers that be, to be ready for every kind of good work, to speak ill of no one, to avoid quarreling,
1 (A)Remind them (B)to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be (C)ready for every good deed,
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
1 Remind them to be submissive(A) to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,
1 Remind believers to submit to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, and to be ready to do any honorable kind of work.
2 to be forbearing, and under all circumstances to show a gentle spirit in dealing with others, whoever they may be.
2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
2 They are not to insult anyone or be argumentative. Instead, they are to be gentle and perfectly courteous to everyone.
3 There was, you remember, a time when we ourselves were foolish, disobedient, misled, slaves to all kinds of passions and vices, living in a spirit of malice and envy, detested ourselves and hating one another.
3 (G)For we also once were foolish ourselves, (H)disobedient, (I)deceived, (J)enslaved to (K)various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in (L)malice and (M)envy, hateful, hating one another.
3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
3 For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions(C) and pleasures,(D) living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.
3 After all, we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, and misled. We were slaves to many kinds of lusts and pleasures, spending our days in malice and jealousy. We were despised, and we hated one another.
5 not as the result of any righteous actions that we had done, but in fulfillment of his merciful purposes. He saved us by that Washing which was a New Birth to us, and by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit,
5 (Q)He saved us, (R)not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but (S)according to His mercy, by the (T)washing of regeneration and (U)renewing by the Holy Spirit,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
5 He saved us(F)—not by works of righteousness that we had done,(G)but according to His mercy,(H)through the washing of regeneration(I)and renewal by the Holy Spirit.(J)
5 "Twas not for deeds that we had done, but by his steadfast love alone, he saved us through a second birth, renewed us by the Spirit's work,
7 that, having been pronounced righteous through his loving-kindness, we might enter on our inheritance with the hope of Immortal Life.
7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made (X)heirs (a)according to the hope of eternal life.

7 And so, made heirs by his own grace, eternal life we now embrace.
8 How true that saying is! And it is on these subjects that I desire you to lay especial stress, so that those who have learned to trust in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing good. Such subjects are excellent in themselves, and of real use to mankind.
8 (Y)This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I (Z)want you to speak confidently, so that those who have (AA)believed God will be careful to (AB)engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
8 This saying is trustworthy.(N) I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed God might be careful to devote themselves to good works. These are good and profitable for everyone.

9 But have nothing to do with foolish discussions, or with genealogies, or with controversy, or disputes about the Law. They are useless and futile.

9 But avoid foolish controversies, arguments about genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the Law. These things are useless and worthless.
11 You may be sure that such a man has forsaken the Truth and is in the wrong; he stands self-condemned.
11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

12 As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, join me as quickly as possible at Nicopolis, for I have arranged to spend the winter there.

14 Let all our People learn to devote themselves to doing good, so as to meet the most pressing needs, and that their lives may not be unfruitful.
14 (AQ)Our people must also learn to (AR)engage in good (b)deeds to meet (AS)pressing needs, so that they will not be (AT)unfruitful.
14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

14 Our own people should also learn to make good deeds a priority when urgent needs arise, so they won't be unproductive.
