1. Moses was to say to Pharaoh, "Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my first-born." Ex 4:22. God called him out of Egypt, which is applied also to the Lord Jesus. Ho 11:1; Mt 2:15.
2. Because Pharaoh refused to let God's first-born go, all the first-born of Egypt were slain. Ex 12:29.
3. God claimed for Himself all the first-born of the children of Israel, and of their cattle. The first-born of Israel were redeemed by the sons of Levi, as far as they went, and the remainder were redeemed with money. Nu 3:12-51.
4. To the first-born son in a family pertained the birthright. Esau was called a profane person for selling his birthright: it was despising the gift of God. The first-born son was to inherit a double portion of his father's property. De 21:15-17.
5. In the N.T. the term is applied to the Lord: He was Mary's first-born. Mt 1:25. He is also called, in pre-eminence, 'the first-born of every creature,' '/Colossians/1/15/type/isv'>Col 1:15; 'the first-born among many brethren,' Ro 8:29; and 'the first-born from the dead.' Col 1:18; Re 1:5. In bringing 'the first-begotten' into the world, God says, "Let all the angels of God worship him." Heb 1:6.
In the O.T. also the title had the force of pre-eminence, irrespective of the time of birth. David, though the youngest, was made the firstborn: of. Ps 89:27. Christ also in every relationship must have the first place, as is manifest in the above passages.

You are to say to Pharaoh, "This is what the LORD says: "Israel is my firstborn son.

These are names of Gershon's descendants according to their families: Libni and Shimei. These are the names of Kohath's descendants according to their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Merari's descendants according to their families were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the descendants of Levi according to their ancestral house. The families of Libni and Shimei were descendants of Gershon. As families of the descendants of Gershon, all the males a month old and above numbered 7,500. The families of the descendants of Gershon encamped behind the tent toward the west. The leader of the tribe and family of Gershon was Lael's son Eliasaph. The duties of the descendants of Gershon at the Tent of Meeting pertained to the tent, the tent covering, the curtain to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, the hangings at the courtyard, the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard that surrounded the tent, the altar, and all of the tent cords in use. Their duties pertained to the ark, the table, the lamp stand, the altars, the utensils of the sanctuary with which they ministered, and all the curtains in use. The chief of all the leaders of the descendants of Levi was Aaron the priest's son Eleazar. He was assigned to oversee those who were in charge of the services of the sanctuary. They were tasked to perform the duties of the sanctuary and care for the needs of the Israelis. Any unauthorized person who approached was to be executed. As the LORD had instructed, everyone counted by Moses and Aaron from the descendants of Levi, according to their tribe, all males from a month old and above numbered 22,000. Later the LORD instructed Moses: "Number all the first-born males of Israel from a month old and above and list their names. Separate the descendants of Levi for me since I am the LORD in place of all the first-born sons of Israel. Also separate the livestock of the descendants of Levi in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of Israel." So Moses numbered all the firstborn from the sons of Israel just as the LORD commanded him. All the first-born males according to the list of their names from a month old and above numbered 22,273. Then the LORD told Moses, "Separate the descendants of Levi in place of all the firstborn sons of Israel and the livestock of the descendants of Levi in place of their livestock. The descendants of Levi belong to me, since I am the LORD. You are to pay a ransom for the 273 first-born Israelis who exceed the census number of the descendants of Levi, so collect five shekels for each individual, denominated in shekels of the sanctuary, that is, the shekel that weighs 20 gerahs. Then give the money meant for ransom of their excess to Aaron and his sons." So Moses took the ransom money to account for the difference in the total number of those redeemed by the descendants of Levi. From the firstborn of the Israelis, Moses took money amounting to 1,365 shekels according to the shekel of the sanctuary. Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and his sons according to the LORD's instructions, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
"If a man has two wives where one is loved but the other is unloved, and both of them bear him sons, but the firstborn is the son of the unloved wife, then when he bequeaths his possessions to his sons, he must not give preference to the firstborn of the beloved wife over the firstborn of the unloved wife. read more.
