(1.) Heb gib'eah, a curved or rounded hill, such as are common to Palestine (Ps 65:12; 72:3; 114:4,6).
(2.) Heb har, properly a mountain range rather than an individual eminence (Ex 24:4,12-13,18; Nu 14:40,44-45). In De 1:7; Jos 9:1; 10:40; 11:16, it denotes the elevated district of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim, which forms the watershed between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea.
(3.) Heb ma'aleh in 1Sa 9:11. Authorized Version "hill" is correctly rendered in the Revised Version "ascent."
(4.) In Lu 9:37 the "hill" is the Mount of Transfiguration.

Moses wrote down all Jehovah's words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jehovah said to Moses: Come up on the mountain and stay here for a while. I will give you the two stone tablets on which I have written the laws that my people must obey. Moses and Joshua his assistant got ready. Moses started up the mountain to meet with God.
Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain. He was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
Early the next morning they headed into the mountains. They said: We have sinned. Now we will go to the place Jehovah promised.
But they headed into the mountains anyway. The Ark of the Jehovah's promise and Moses stayed in the camp. The Amalekites and Canaanites who lived there came down from those mountains, attacked the Israelites, and defeated them at Hormah.
Leave this place and go to the mountain of the Amorites, and all the places near there in the plain, in the hills, and in the valley and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and to Lebanon, to the great river, the river Euphrates.
All the kings west of Jordan heard these things; the kings in the hills, and in the valleys, in all the coasts of the Great (Mediterraean) Sea over against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite heard these things.
So Joshua struck all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah God of Israel commanded.
Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same.
Going up the hill to the city they met girls coming out to get water. They asked the girls: Is the seer here?

Hebrew gibeah, "a carved, rounded hill"; frequent in the Holy Land. Har, mistranslated "hill;" it means a" mountain range or district" (Ex 24:4,12-13,18; Nu 14:40,44-45). The "hill" in Jos 15:9, compare 8, is the Mount of Olives. "The hills," De 1:7; Jos 9:1, is the mountain district of Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim (Nu 13:29). The "holy hill," "hill of Jehovah," etc., Ps 3:4; 24:3, is mount Zion. Carmel should be called the mount, not "a hill" (2Ki 1:9; 4:27; compare 1Ki 18:19). Maleh should be "ascent," not "hill" (1Sa 9:11, margin). In Lu 9:28,37, "the hill" (oros) is the mountain of transfiguration. In Lu 1:39 "the hill country" ought to be translated "the mountain country" of Judah.

I call aloud to Jehovah. He answers me from his holy mountain.
Who will go up to the mountain of Jehovah? Who may stand in His holy place?
About eight days after he said these things he took Peter, John and James, and went up into the mountain to pray.
