You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You who say that a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples? You who make your boast in the law, do you, by transgressing the law, dishonor God?

For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: The dog has turned again to his own vomit; and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.
