and I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.

that you may not become slothful, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises.

See that you reject not him that speaks: for if they es caped not who rejected that earthly man who gave the oracles, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that is from heaven,

It is generally reported that there is lewdness among you; and such lewdness as is not even mentioned among the Gentiles that a certain one has his father's wife. And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that has done this deed might be taken from among you.

And every one that hears these words of mine, and does them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand.

But they were careless, and went away, one to his farm, another to his merchandise.

Peter answered and said to him: Though all shall be offended at thee, yet will I never be offended.

And that servant who knew his lord's will, but made no preparation, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few. To whomever much has been given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have intrusted much, of him will they ask the more.

And they all, with one consent, began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a farm, and I must go and see it; I pray you, have me excused.

I know your works, that you are neither cold, nor hot: I wish that you were cold, or hot. So, then, because you are luke-warm, and neither cold, nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth. Because you say I am rich, and abound in wealth, and have need of nothing, and know not that you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked,

Make trial of yourselves, whether you are in the faith; put yourselves to the proof. Do you not know your own selves, that Christ Jesus is in you? unless you be without proof.
