For the music director; a psalm of David. How long, Lord, will you continue to ignore me? How long will you pay no attention to me?


My eyes grow tired as I wait for your promise to be fulfilled. I say, "When will you comfort me?"

So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he remained in the place where he was for two more days.

I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay!

I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God.

Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.



You have scrutinized my inner motives; you have examined me during the night. You have carefully evaluated me, but you find no sin. I am determined I will say nothing sinful.

So when the envoys arrived from the Babylonian officials to visit him and inquire about the sign that occurred in the land, God left him alone to test him, in order to know his true motives.

One night in Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream. God said, "Tell me what I should give you."


May the evil deeds of the wicked come to an end! But make the innocent secure, O righteous God, you who examine inner thoughts and motives!



You must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer, for the Lord your God will be testing you to see if you love him with all your mind and being.


Moses said to the people, "Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you so that you do not sin."

Some time after these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am!" Abraham replied.


So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he remained in the place where he was for two more days.

Then Jesus, when he looked up and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where can we buy bread so that these people may eat?" (Now Jesus said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.)


After they had beaten them severely, they threw them into prison and commanded the jailer to guard them securely. Receiving such orders, he threw them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.


My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
