what is man that You remember him, the son of man that You look after him? You made him little less than God and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him lord over the works of Your hands; You put everything under his feet:

Who is like the Lord our God- the One enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

Lord, what is man, that You care for him,
the son of man, that You think of him?

This is what the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says:
“Ask Me what is to happen to My sons,
and instruct Me about the work of My hands.

Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.




stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

They got up early in the morning and swore an oath to each other. Then Isaac sent them on their way, and they left him in peace.

So Joshua established peace with them and made a treaty to let them live, and the leaders of the community swore an oath to them.

This is how we will treat them: we will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we swore to them.”

For men swear by something greater than themselves, and for them a confirming oath ends every dispute. Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath,


For though her sons had not been born yet or done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to election might stand—



Because of this, the earth will mourn;
the skies above will grow dark.
I have spoken; I have planned,
and I will not relent or turn back from it.




All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing,
and He does what He wants with the army of heaven
and the inhabitants of the earth.
There is no one who can hold back His hand
or say to Him, “What have You done?”




Because of this, the earth will mourn;
the skies above will grow dark.
I have spoken; I have planned,
and I will not relent or turn back from it.




but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even be found fighting against God.” So they were persuaded by him.

He has given us the privilege,

stay in this land as a foreigner, and I will be with you and bless you. For I will give all these lands to you and your offspring, and I will confirm the oath that I swore to your father Abraham.

and said, “By Myself I have sworn,” this is the Lord’s declaration: “Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will certainly come to your aid and bring you up from this land to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Once and for all
I have sworn an oath by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.


For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself:



All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing,
and He does what He wants with the army of heaven

The Lord has sworn with His right hand
and His strong arm:
I will no longer give your grain
to your enemies for food,
and foreigners will not drink your new wine
you have labored for.



and said, “By Myself I have sworn,” this is the Lord’s declaration: “Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,

Once and for all
I have sworn an oath by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.

So I swore in My anger,
“They will not enter My rest.”


For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.










the oath that He swore to our father Abraham.
He has given us the privilege,

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself: I will most certainly bless you, and I will greatly multiply you.

So I swore in My anger,
“They will not enter My rest.”

The Lord of Hosts has sworn by Himself:

I will fill you up with men as with locusts,
and they will sing the victory song over you.

And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed?


in order to establish the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is today.”

I answered, “Amen, Lord.”

For by Myself I have sworn”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“Bozrah will become a desolation, a disgrace, a ruin, and a curse, and all her cities will become ruins forever.”

For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak, but the promise of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son, who has been perfected forever.


and said, “By Myself I have sworn,” this is the Lord’s declaration: “Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your only son,

Once and for all
I have sworn an oath by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.


(for we who have believed enter the rest), in keeping with what He has said:

So I swore in My anger,
they will not enter My rest.


And yet His works have been finished since the foundation of the world,

The Lord swore an oath to David,
a promise He will not abandon:
“I will set one of your descendants
on your throne.

So I swore in My anger,
“They will not enter My rest.”

He swore an oath by the One who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it: “There will no longer be an interval of time,

By Myself I have sworn;
Truth has gone from My mouth,
a word that will not be revoked:
Every knee will bow to Me,
every tongue will swear allegiance.

But if you do not obey these words, then I swear by Myself”—this is the Lord’s declaration—“that this house will become a ruin.”

but He became a priest with an oath made by the One who said to Him:

The Lord has sworn,
and He will not change His mind,
You are a priest forever.

The Lord has sworn with His right hand
and His strong arm:

Tell them: As surely as I live,” this is the Lord’s declaration, “I will do to you exactly as I heard you say.



By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.



For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
