And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cling to his wife, and {the two (LXX/NT)} shall be one flesh.

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou love all the days of thy life of vanity, which he has given thee under the sun, all thy days of vanity. But even if she separates, she shall remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to leave his wife. But to the rest I say, not the Lord. If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and this woman consents to dwell with him, he should not leave her.

But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. Because of this a man will leave his father and mother behind, and will be bonded with his wife, and the two will be in one flesh. So then they are no more two, but one flesh.

But because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render the goodwill owed to the wife, and likewise also the wife to the husband. The wife has not the right of her private body, but the husband, and likewise also the husband has not the right of his private body, but the wife.

Husbands, love your own wives even as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it, so that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it with the washing of water by the word, so that he might present it to himself, the glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and unblemished. read more.
So ought the husbands to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as also Christ the church, because we are parts of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. Separate from this a man will leave his father and mother behind, and will be bonded with his wife, and the two will be in one flesh. This mystery is great, but I speak for Christ and for the church. Nevertheless ye also, each one in particular, shall so love his own wife as himself, and the wife that she fear her husband.

Yet ye say, Why? Because LORD has been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou have dealt treacherously, though she is thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. And did he not make one, although he had the residue of the Spirit? And why one? He sought a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

And Pharisees came to him, trying him, and saying to him, Is it permitted for a man to divorce his wife for every cause? And having answered, he said to them, Have ye not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man will leave his father and mother behind, and will be bonded with his wife, and the two will be in one flesh? read more.
So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, no man shall separate. They say to him, Why then did Moses command to give a writing of divorcement, and to divorce her? He says to them, For your hard heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it did not happened this way. And I say to you, that whoever may divorce his wife, not for fornication, and will marry another, commits adultery. And he who married her who has been divorced commits adultery.
