And it came to pass that the beggar died, and himself was carried by the angels into the bosom of Abraham: and the rich man also died, and was buried. And in Hades lifted up his eyes, being in torment, sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he calling said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, because I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Child, remember that you received your good things in your life, and Lazarus likewise evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. And in addition to all these things, there is a great gulf fixed between us and you, in order that those wishing to go hence to you may not be able, neither can they come thence to us. And he said, Moreover I intreat you, father, that you may send him to the house of my father: for I have five brothers; in order that he may testify to them, that they may not also come to this place of the torment. But Abraham says, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. But he said, No, father Abraham: but if one may go to them from the dead, they will repent. But he said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded if one may rise from the dead.
