Then the Lord appeared to Abraham at the oaks of Mamre
Abraham looked up and saw three men standing across from him. When he saw them he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
So Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick! Knead three measures
Meanwhile, Abraham ran to the herd and got a tender, choice calf. He gave it to a young man, who hurried to prepare it.
Then Abraham took curds
Abraham and Sarah were old and getting on in years.
and Abraham and Sarah are aged, entering into days -- the way of women hath ceased to be to Sarah;
But the Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Can I really have a baby when I’m old?’
And Jehovah saith unto Abraham, 'Why is this? Sarah hath laughed, saying, Is it true really -- I bear -- and I am aged? Is any thing too wonderful for Jehovah? at the appointed time I return unto thee, about the time of life, and Sarah hath a son.'
The men got up from there and looked out over Sodom, and Abraham was walking with them to see them off.
Then the Lord said, “Should I hide what I am about to do from Abraham?
Abraham is to become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.
For I have chosen
The men turned from there and went toward Sodom
Abraham stepped forward and said, “Will You really sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
Then Abraham answered, “Since I have ventured to speak to the Lord—even though I am dust and ashes—
Abraham spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose [only] forty are found there.” And He said, “I will not do it for the sake of the forty [who are righteous].”
Then Abraham said [to Him], “Oh, may the Lord not be angry, and I will speak; suppose thirty [righteous people] are found there?” And He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
Abraham said, "Since I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty are found there?" He replied, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty."
Finally Abraham said, "May the Lord not be angry so that I may speak just once more. What if ten are found there?" He replied, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten."
When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, He departed, and Abraham returned to his place.
Early in the morning Abraham went to the place where he had stood before the Lord.
So it was, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, He remembered Abraham and brought Lot out of the middle of the upheaval when He demolished the cities where Lot had lived.
From there Abraham traveled to the region of the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he lived in Gerar,
Abraham said about his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.”
Did Abraham not say to me, 'She is my sister'? And she herself said, 'He is my brother.' I have done this with a clear conscience and with innocent hands!"
Then Abimelech called Abraham in and said to him, “What have you done to us? How did I sin against you that you have brought such enormous guilt on me and on my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.”
Abimelech also said to Abraham, “What did you intend when you did this thing?”
Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘There is absolutely no fear of God in this place.
Then Abimelech took sheep and cattle and male and female slaves, gave them to Abraham, and returned his wife Sarah to him.
Then Abraham prayed to God,
for the Lord had completely closed all the wombs in Abimelech’s household on account of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time God had told him.
Abraham named his son who was born to him—the one Sarah bore to him—Isaac.
When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded him.
Abraham was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
She also said, “Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him
The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham held a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.
But Sarah saw the son mocking
So she said to Abraham, “Drive out this slave with her son, for the son of this slave will not be a coheir with my son Isaac!”
Now this was a very difficult thing for
But God said to Abraham, “Do not be concerned
Early in the morning Abraham got up, took bread and a waterskin, put them on Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her and the boy away.
At that time Abimelech, accompanied by Phicol the commander of his army,
And Abraham said, “I swear it.”
But Abraham complained to Abimelech because of the water well that Abimelech’s servants had seized.
Abraham took sheep and cattle
Abraham separated seven ewe lambs from the flock.
And Abimelech said to Abraham, “Why have you separated these seven ewe lambs?”
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.
And Abraham lived as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines for many days.
After these things God tested Abraham
“Here I am,” he answered.
So Abraham got up early in the morning,
On the third day
Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship; then we’ll come back to you.”
Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac.
Then Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, “My father.”
And he replied, “Here I am, my son.”
Isaac said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide
When they arrived at the place that God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac
Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son.
But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
He replied, “Here I am.”
Abraham looked up and saw a ram
And Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide,
Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven
Abraham went back to his young men, and they got up and went together to Beer-sheba. And Abraham settled in Beer-sheba.
Now after these things Abraham was told, “Milcah also has borne sons to your brother Nahor:
And Bethuel fathered Rebekah.
Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron
Then Abraham got up from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites:
The Hittites replied to Abraham,
Then Abraham rose and bowed down to the Hittites, the people of the land.
Ephron was sitting among the Hittites. So in the presence
Abraham bowed down to the people of the land
And Abraham said to Ephron, in the hearing of the people of the land, If only you will give ear to me, I will give you the price of the field; take it, and let me put my dead to rest there.
Ephron answered Abraham and said to him,
Abraham agreed with Ephron, and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver that he had agreed to in the presence
So Abraham secured Ephron's field in Machpelah, next to Mamre, including the field, the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field and all around its border,
Abraham’s possession in the presence of all the Hittites who came to the gate of his city.
After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field at Machpelah near Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

Abraham was now old, getting on in years,
Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his household who managed all he owned, “Place your hand under my thigh,
Abraham answered him, “Make sure that you don’t take my son back there.
So the servant placed his hand under his master Abraham’s thigh and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.
Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels, and set out, taking some of his master’s good things with him; so he got up and journeyed to
“Lord, God of my master Abraham,” he prayed, “give me success today,
Now, may the girl to whom I say, Let down your vessel and give me a drink, and who says in answer, Here is a drink for you and let me give water to your camels: may she be the one marked out by you for your servant Isaac: so may I be certain that you have been good to my master Abraham.
Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebekah—daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah,
Abraham's servant ran to meet her and said, "Please give me a sip of water from your jug."
and said, “Praise the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not withheld His kindness and faithfulness from my master.
So Abraham's servant went to the house and unloaded the camels. Straw and feed were given to the camels, and water was provided so that he and the men who were with him could wash their feet.

Therefore those who are of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For so many as are of works of law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one who does not abide in all things which have been written in the book of the law, to do the same. But that no one is justified by law in the sight of God, is evident: because, The just shall live by faith: though the law is not of faith; but the one having done these things shall live in them. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: because it has been written; Cursed is every one having been hung on the wood: in order that the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus may come to the Gentiles; in order that we may receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak according to a man, nevertheless no one disannuls, or adds to, the covenant of a man which has been confirmed. But the promises were spoken to Abraham and his seed. He does not say, And unto seeds, as of many; but as of one; And thy seed, which is Christ. And I say this; The law which was given after four hundred and thirty years, does not disannul the covenant which had been before confirmed of God, so as to make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance were by law, it is no more by promise: but God gave it to Abraham through the promise.

Indeed David also speaks of the blessedness of the man, to whom God imputes righteousness without works, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man of whom the Lord may not impute sin. Then does this blessedness come on the circumcision, or on the uncircumcision? for we say That faith was imputed to Abraham for righteousness. Then how was it imputed? to him, being in circumcision or uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, and the seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had in uncircumcision: that he should be the father of all who believed, through uncircumcision; and righteousness should be imputed to them; and the father of circumcision to them who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision. For the promise to Abraham or his seed, that he should be the heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if the heirs were by the law, faith has been made void, and the promise vitiated. For the law works out wrath: for where there is no law, there is no transgression. Therefore it is by faith, in order that it may be by grace; that the promise may be sure to all the seed; not only of the law, but also of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, as it has been written, That I have constituted thee the father of many nations, before God whom he believed, who quickens the dead, and calls things which are not as really existing: who against hope confided in hope, that he should be the father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, So shall thy seed be: and being not weak in faith, he considered not his body already dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb: but he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was filled up with dynamite through faith, having given glory to God; and being fully assured, that whatsoever he has promised, he is able also to perform. Therefore it was indeed imputed unto him for righteousness.
Therefore those who are of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
You see that a man is justified by works, and not only by faith.

And thus God spoke, that his seed shall sojourn in a strange land, and they will enslave it and oppress it four hundred years. And the nation whom they shall serve I will judge, says God, and after these things they shall come out and serve me in this place. And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.
And by faith Sarah herself received power unto the conception of seed, even past the time of age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore indeed they were born of one, and those things of one having died, as the stars of heaven for multitude, and as the sands which are by the sea, which are innumerable. These all died in the faith, not having received the promises, but seeing them afar off, and embracing them, and confessing that they are strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those speaking such things declare that they are seeking after a country of their own. If indeed they remember that country from which they came out, they would have had an opportunity to return; but now they seek a better country, that is, a heavenly. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he has prepared for them a city. By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac: and the one having received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
