So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.
But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."
God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.
which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
Therefore God also highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name which is above every name,
saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"

And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And they bound him, and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
Very early in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a riot among the people."
And those who had seized Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the end. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, read more.
but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. But I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard his blasphemy. What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death." Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists; and others slapped him, saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck you?"

And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. Now the betrayer had given them a signal, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him and lead him away under guard." And when he came, he went up to him at once, and said, "Rabbi!" and he kissed him. read more.
And they laid hands on him and seized him. And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But the scriptures must be fulfilled." Then they all forsook him and fled. And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth around his body. And they seized him, and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked. And they led Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes were assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. For many bore false witness against him, but their testimonies did not agree. Then some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another not made with hands.'" Yet even then their testimony did not agree. And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" And Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." The high priest tore his clothes and said, "Why do we need any more witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" And they all condemned him as worthy of death. Then some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to beat him, and to say to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with slaps in the face.

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, officers of the temple, and the elders who had come to him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. And a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, looked at him, and said, "This man also was with him." But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him." And a little later some one else saw him and said, "You also are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" Then after about an hour had passed, another insisted, saying, "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean." But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly. Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him. They blindfolded him and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" And they spoke many other things against him, blaspheming. As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying, "If you are the Christ, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe. And if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God." They all said, "Are you the Son of God, then?" He said to them, "You said what I am." And they said, "What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips."

And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them, being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they seized them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. read more.
But many of those who heard the message believed; and the number of the men came to about five thousand. On the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they began to inquire, "By what power or by what name did you do this?" Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed. He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they conferred with one another, saying, "What shall we do with these men? For that a noteworthy miracle has been performed through them is apparent to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any one in this name." Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard." And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for all the people were praising God for what had happened.

But they could not stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God." read more.
They stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came on him and seized him, and brought him before the council. They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law; for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us." And fixing their gaze on him, all who were sitting in the Council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
They stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came on him and seized him, and brought him before the council. They put forward false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking against this holy place, and the law; for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us." The high priest said, "Are these things so?" And he said: "Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, and said to him, 'Leave your country and your relatives, and go into the land that I will show you.' read more.
Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. From there, after his father died, God had him move to this country in which you are now living. But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and yet, even though he had no child, he promised that he would give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him. But God spoke to this effect, that his descendants would be aliens in a foreign land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years. 'But I will judge the nation which they serve,' said God, 'and after that they will come out and worship me in this place.' And he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. "And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt. But God was with him, and rescued him from all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and all his household. Now there came a famine throughout all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, and our fathers could find no food. But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the first time. At the second visit Josnt made himself known to his brothers, and Joseph's family was made known to Pharaoh. Then Josnt sent and called his father Jacob and all his relatives to him, seventy-five persons in all. And Jacob went down to Egypt, and there he and our fathers died. They were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor in Shechem. "But as the time of the promise drew near, which God had granted to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt until there arose another king over Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. He dealt craftily with our race and forced our fathers to expose their infants, so that they would not survive. At this time Moses was born, and was beautiful before God. And he was brought up for three months in his father's house; and when he was placed outside, Pharaoh's daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds. "When he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel. And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and avenged the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. And he supposed that his brethren understood that God was granting them deliverance through him, but they did not understand. On the following day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, 'Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong each other?' But the man who was wronging his neighbor pushed him aside, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?' At this remark Moses fled, and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. "After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush. When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight; and as he approached to look more closely, there came the voice of the Lord: 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look. And the Lord said to him, 'Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Come now, and I will send you to Egypt.' This Moses whom they rejected, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the one God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years. This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, 'God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren.' This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living oracles to pass on to us. But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt, saying to Aaron, 'Make for us gods who will go before us; as for this Moses who led us out from the land of Egyptwe do not know what has happened to him.' At that time they made a calf and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their hands. But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: 'Did you offer to me slain beasts and sacrifices, forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? You took up the tent of Moloch, and the star of the god Rephan, the figures which you made to worship. And I will remove you beyond Babylon.' "Our fathers had the tabernacle of testimony in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it according to the pattern which he had seen. And having received it in their turn, our fathers brought it in with Joshua when they took the land from the nations whom God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the time of David, who found favor in God's sight, and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. But it was Solomon who built a house for him. However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says: 'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? Has not my hand made all these things?' "You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. You are doing just as your fathers did. Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels, and yet did not keep it." Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed their teeth at him. But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." But they cried out with a loud voice, and covered their ears and rushed together upon him with. Then they cast him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen in this way?" At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But all this has taken place, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him and fled. And those who had seized Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the end. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. But I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard his blasphemy. What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death." Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists; and others slapped him, saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck you?" Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him and said, "You also were with Jesus of Galilee." But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about." And when he went out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." But again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man!" After a little while those who stood by came up and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you." He drew near to Jesus to kiss him; but Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" Then the girl who kept the door said to Peter, "You are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" He said, "I am not." Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. Jesus answered him, "I have spoken openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and I have said nothing in secret. Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. They know what I said." And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?" Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken wrongly, bear witness to the wrong; but if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?" Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Now Simon Peter stood warming himself. Therefore they said to him, "You are not also one of his disciples, are you?" He denied it and said, "I am not."
