For she, in pouring this ointment upon My body, did it with reference to My burial.
And, the sabbath having past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that, coming, they might anoint Him.
And, returning, they prepared spices and perfumes; and, on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
She did what she could: she anointed My body beforehand for the burial.

Now, when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, there came to Him a woman having an alabaster cruse of very precious ointment, and poured it down upon His head, while reclining at table. But Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, "Why do ye give trouble to the woman? for she wrought a good work for Me; for the poor ye always have with you; but Me ye have not always. They, therefore, made Him a supper there; and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with Him. And he said this, not because he cared about the poor; but because he was a thief; and, having the money-box, he was wont to carry what was put therein. Jesus, therefore, said, "Suffer her to keep it for the day of My burial; for the poor ye always have with you, but Me ye have not always."
