For many ??as I have often told you and tell you now with tears ??many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
he who will not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.

whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me, he cannot be a disciple of mine.
Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel. And to preach it with no fine rhetoric, lest the cross of Christ should lose its power! Those who are doomed to perish find the story of the cross 'sheer folly,' but it means the power of God for those whom he saves.
I am 'still preaching circumcision myself,' am I? Then, brothers, why am I still being persecuted? And so the stumbling-block of the cross has lost its force, forsooth!
