And he came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He asked them, What were ye disputing about among yourselves by the way? But they held their peace; for they had been disputing with each other by the way who should be the greatest. So He sat down and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any one would be first, let him be last of all, and servant of all. read more.
And He took a child and set him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms He said unto them, Whoever shall receive one of these little children in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not me only, but Him that sent me. But John answered Him and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, who doth not follow us; and we forbade him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no one, that worketh a miracle in my name, and can presently speak evil of me: for he that is not against us, is for us. For whosoever shall give you but a cup of water to drink, for my sake; because ye are Christ's, I assure you, he shall not lose his reward. And whosoever shall cause one of these little ones, that believe in me, to offend, it were better for him, if a milstone were laid upon his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire that will never be extinguished; where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life lame, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the inextinguishable fire; where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye cause thee to offend, cast it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell-fire; where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. For every one shall be as it were salted by fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned as with salt. Salt is useful, but if the salt become insipid, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt therefore in yourselves, and as a proof of it be at peace one with another.

Then a dispute rose among them, which of them should be greatest. And Jesus knowing the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child for my sake, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth Him that sent me. For he that is lest among you all, shall be great. read more.
And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, and we forbad him, because he followeth not thee with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not; for he, that is not against us, is for us.

It were better for him that a milstone were hung about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to offend.

Wo will be to the world from such offenses; for it is of necessity that offenses come: but wo to that man by whom the offense cometh.

At that time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is to be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus calling to Him a little child, set it in the midst of them, and said, Verily I declare unto you, unless ye be converted, and become like little children, ye shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven. read more.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he shall be greatest in the kingdom of heaven: and whoever shall receive one such little child for my sake, receiveth me: but whosoever shall lay a stumbling-block in the way of one of these little ones, who believe in me, it were better for him that a milstone were hung on his neck, and that he were thrown into the sea.

Then said He to the disciples, It is impossible that offences should not come: but wo to him by whom they come. It were better for him that a milstone were hung about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to offend.
