But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is nowhere less honoured, than in his own country, and among his relations, and his own family.
Then came to Jesus the scribes and pharisees from Jerusalem saying, Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat. But He answered and said unto them, And why do ye transgress the commandment of God for your tradition?read more.

Whereupon his disciples came and said to Him, Dost thou know that the pharisees, when they heard this assertion, were offended at it?
And when they were come to Capernaum, the receivers of the tribute-money came to Peter and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? Yes, saith he. And when he came into the house, Jesus prevented him and said, What thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Of their own children, or of other people? Peter saith unto Him, Of others. Jesus answered him, Then are the children free:read more.
but that we may not give them offence, go to the sea-side and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and open its mouth, and thou shalt find a piece of money: that take and give them for me and thee.

But Jesus knowing in Himself, that his disciples were murmuring about it, said unto them, Does this offend you? What then, if ye should see the Son of man ascending up, where He was before? The spirit is the principle of life, the flesh availeth nothing: now the words that I speak unto you are spirit, and therefore life. But there are some of you that believe not: (for Jesus knew from the beginning, who they were that believed not, and who would betray Him: and He said,) therefore I told you, that no one can come unto me except it be given him from my Father. From this time many of his disciples went away, and walked no more with Him.
And whereas the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks look for wisdom, we preach Christ crucified; to the Jews indeed a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness; but to them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted by the Jews? for then the offence of the cross is ceased.
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, not to lay a stumbling-block or scandal before a brother.
But He turned and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan, thou art an offence to me; for thou regardest not the things of God, but those that be of men.
And David saith, Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompence unto them. Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and always bow down their back.
But see that this liberty of yours be not by any means a stumbling-block to the weak.
