that the requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For those who are according to the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither, indeed, can it be; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if, indeed, the Spirit of God is dwelling in you. And, if any one has not the spirit of Christ, he is not His. And, if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. And, if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will make alive your mortal bodies through His Spirit dwelling in you. Accordingly, then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh; for, if ye live according to the flesh, ye are going to die; but, if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For ye did not receive a spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received a spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit Himself testifieth with our spirit, that we are children of God; and, if children, heirs also; heirs, indeed, of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if, indeed, we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified with Him. for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one who believes. For Moses writes that the man who did the righteousness of the law shall live thereby; but the righteousness which is of faith speaks thus: "Say not in your heart, who shall ascend up into Heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down); or, who shall descend into the abyss? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart; that is, the word of faith, which we preach; that if you shall confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and shall believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whosoever believes on Him shall not be put to shame." For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the Same One is Lord of all, being rich toward all who call upon Him; for, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

For He Who said, "Do not commit adultery," said also, "Do not kill." Now, if you do not commit adultery, but kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak, and so do, as those who are about to be judged by a law of liberty. For the judgment is without mercy to him who showed no mercy: mercy exults over judgment. What profit is it, my brethren, if anyone says he has faith, but has not works; can such faith save him? If a brother or a sister be naked, and in want of daily food, and one of you say to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but ye give them not the things needful for the body, what does it profit? Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. But some one will say, "You have faith, and I have works": show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder! But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is worthless?
