Consequently, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them [are] twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Now [when he] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and [after he] sat down, his disciples approached him. And opening his mouth he began to teach them, saying, "Blessed [are] the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. read more.
Blessed [are] the ones who mourn, because they will be comforted. Blessed [are] the meek, because they will inherit the earth. Blessed [are] the ones who hunger and thirst [for] righteousness, because they will be satisfied. Blessed [are] the merciful, because they will be shown mercy. Blessed [are] the pure in heart, because they will see God. Blessed [are] the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God. Blessed [are] those who are persecuted because of righteousness, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute [you] and say all kinds of evil things against you, lying on account of me. Rejoice and be glad, because your reward [is] great in heaven, for in the [same] way they persecuted the prophets before you. "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, by what will it be made salty? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown outside [and] trampled under foot by people. You are the light of the world. A city located on top of a hill cannot be hidden, nor do they light a lamp and place it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it shines on all those in the house. In the [same] way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

And [while] he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and brothers were standing there outside, desiring to speak to him. And someone told him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing there outside desiring to speak to you." But he answered [and] said to the one who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" read more.
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Behold my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father [who is] in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother."

And Jesus answered [and] said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal [this] to you, but my Father [who is] in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it!

And his mother and his brothers arrived, and standing outside, they sent [word] to him to summon him. And a crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers [are] outside looking for you." And he answered them [and] said, "Who is my mother or my brothers?" read more.
And looking around at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, "Behold, my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother."

For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to people. We [are] fools for the sake of Christ, but you [are] prudent in Christ! We [are] weak, but you [are] strong! You [are] honored, but we [are] dishonored! Until the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty and poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless, read more.
and we toil, working with our own hands. [When we are] reviled, we bless; [when we are] persecuted, we endure; [when we are] slandered, we encourage. We have become like the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all [things], until now.

because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.

I produced the former account, O Theophilus, about all {that} Jesus began to do and to teach,

But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' because one is your teacher, and you are all brothers,

And he began to teach in their synagogues, [and] was praised by all.

This man came to him at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that [you are] a teacher who has come from God, for no one is able to perform these signs that you are performing unless God were with him."

Now it happened that on another Sabbath he entered into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there, and his right hand was withered.

And they sent their disciples to him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and {you do not care what anyone thinks}, {because you do not regard the opinion of people}.

And [after] he arrived at the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him [while he] was teaching, saying, "By what authority are you doing these [things]? And who gave you this authority?"

And [when they] came, they said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and {you do not care what anyone thinks}, {because you do not regard the opinion of people} but teach the way of God in truth. Is it permitted to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?"

And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and do not {show partiality}, but teach the way of God in truth.

Now [when he] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and [after he] sat down, his disciples approached him.

And it happened that when Jesus had finished giving orders to his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and to preach in their towns.

At that time Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a robber, to arrest me? Every day in the temple [courts] I sat teaching, and you did not arrest me!

And again he began to teach beside the sea, and a very large crowd was gathered to him, so that he got into a boat [and] sat on the sea, and the whole crowd was at the sea on the land.

But they insisted, saying, "He incites the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judea and beginning from Galilee as far as here."

So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light." Jesus said these [things], and [then] he went away [and] was hidden from them.

Do all [things] without grumbling and disputing, in order that you may become blameless and innocent, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine as stars in the world,

Therefore become imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell. But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or greediness, must not even be named among you (as is fitting for saints), read more.
and obscenity, and foolish talk, or coarse jesting (which [are] not proper), but rather thanksgiving. For this you know {for certain}, that every sexually immoral [person], or unclean [person], or greedy [person] (who is an idolater), does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these [things] the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be sharers with them, for you were formerly darkness, but now [you are] light in the Lord. Live like children of light

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need [of anything] to be written to you, for [you] yourselves well know that the day of the Lord is coming in the [same] way as a thief in the night. Whenever they say "Peace and security," then sudden destruction will overtake them like the birth pains of {a pregnant woman}, and they will not possibly escape. read more.
But you, brothers, are not in the darkness, so that the day should catch you like a thief, for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

And he got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, [and] asked him to put out from the land a little. And he sat down [and] began to teach the crowds from the boat.

Now [when he] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and [after he] sat down, his disciples approached him.

And he rolled up the scroll [and] gave [it] back to the attendant [and] sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were looking intently at him.
