whose names are these: in the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh; and in the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud; and in the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon; and in the tribe of the children of Dan, the lord Bukki the son of Jogli; and among the children of Joseph: in the tribe of the children of Manasseh, the lord Hanniel the son of Ephod; and in the tribe of the children of Ephraim, the lord Kemuel the son of Shiphtan; and in the tribe of the sons of Zebulon, the lord Elizaphan the son of Parnach; and in the tribe of the children of Issachar, the lord Paltiel the son of Azzan; and in the tribe of the sons of Asher, the lord Ahihud the son of Shelomi; and in the tribe of the children of Naphtali, the lord Pedahel the son of Ammihud." These are they which the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance unto the children of Israel, in the land of Canaan.

And ye shall measure without the city, and make the utmost border of the east side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the south side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the west side: two thousand cubits. And the utmost border of the north side: two thousand cubits also. And the city shall be in the midst. And these shall be the suburbs of their cities. These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and to the strangers that Sojourned among them that whosoever killed any person ignorantly, the same might flee thither and should not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
If a man lay not await, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will point thee a place whither he shall flee.

Notwithstanding, the cities of the Levites and the houses in the cities of their possessions the Levites may redeem at all seasons. And if a man purchase ought of the Levites: whether it be house or city that they possess, the bargain shall go out in the trumpet year for the houses of the cities of the Levites, are their possessions among the children of Israel. But the fields that lie round about their cities, shall not be bought: for they are their possessions forever.
And then came the principal heads of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun and unto the ancient heads of the tribes of the children of Israel, and spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan saying, "The LORD commanded by Moses, to give us cities to dwell in and the fields about them, for our cattle." Of this part there shall belong unto the Sanctuary, five hundred measuring rods in all the four corners, and fifty cubits wide round about to the suburbs. Upon the borders of Judah from the east part unto the west, ye shall set aside one portion of twenty five thousand measuring rods long and broad - like as another portion from the east side unto the west - wherein the Sanctuary shall stand. As for the portion, that ye shall separate out for the LORD: it shall be twenty five thousand measuring rods long, and ten thousand broad. The other five thousand after the breadth that lieth by the twenty five thousand shall be common: it shall belong to the city and to the suburbs for habitations, and the city shall stand in the midst thereof. Let this be the measure: toward the north part, five hundred and four thousand; toward the south part five hundred and four thousand; toward the east part five hundred and four thousand; toward the west part five hundred and four thousand. The suburbs hard upon the city shall have toward the north, fifty and two hundred; and toward the south, fifty and two hundred; and toward the east, fifty and two hundred; and toward the west also, fifty and two hundred.
