There came to him a woman having an alabaster-box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head as he sat at table. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. read more.
When Jesus understood it, he said to them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

Then Mary took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who was to betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? read more.
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bore what was put in it. Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burial hath she kept this.


And they that had laid hold on Jesus, led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

Then they took him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed at a distance.

Then the band, and the captain, and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,


So then after the Lord had spoken to them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

And he led them out as far as to Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he was blessing them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: read more.
And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly towards heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. read more.
Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.


Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, And said, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them. And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him to them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. read more.
And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude.

And while he was yet speaking, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him. But Jesus said to him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

Then he cometh to his disciples, and saith to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. And while he was yet speaking, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staffs, from the chief priests and elders of the people. read more.
Now he that betrayed him, gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail Master; and kissed him. And Jesus said to him, Friend, Why art thou come? Then they came, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will betray me.





And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said to them,

And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he essayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.


And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.




And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulcher.


(For his disciples had gone to the city to buy provisions.)

Now in the morning as he was returning into the city, he was hungry.

And on the morrow, when they had come from Bethany, he was hungry,

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Being forty days tempted by the devil. And in those days he ate nothing; and when they were ended, he was afterward hungry. And the devil said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.



Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment to truth. read more.
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he hath set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

He shall not contend, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he shall send forth judgment to victory.

And Jesus said to him, Friend, Why art thou come? Then they came, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. And behold, one of them, who were with Jesus, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and smote off his ear. Then said Jesus to him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword, shall perish by the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he will presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?


And Jesus, when he came out, saw many people, and was moved with compassion towards them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.


And when he had sent the multitudes away, he ascended a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.


And it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, he took Peter, and John, and James, and went up upon a mountain to pray.

And when he had dismissed them, he departed to a mountain to pray.




And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them; so much the more a great deal they published it;

Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

And their eyes were opened; and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

And he strictly charged them, that they should not make him known.

And he charged them strictly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.


Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council, and said, What do we? for this man performeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come, and take away both our place and nation. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, Ye know nothing at all, read more.
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. And this he spoke not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should assemble in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Then from that day forth they took counsel together to put him to death. Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence to a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all. And charged them that they should not make him known:

But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judea.


Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence to a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and concealed himself from them.


But when his brethren had gone up, then he went also to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.





And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, read more.
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he is King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. The thieves also who were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.


And will deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he will rise again.





And the high priest arose, and said to him, Answerest thou nothing, what is it which these testify against thee? But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ the Son of God.

And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then saith Pilate to him, Hearest thou not how many things they testify against thee? And he answered him to not a word; so that the governor marveled greatly.


But as they sailed, he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

And he was in the hinder part of the boat, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say to him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.



And he took with him Peter, and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even to death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. read more.
And he cometh to the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

And saith to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful to death: tarry ye here, and watch. And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, If it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt. read more.
And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldst not thou watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. And again he went away, and prayed, and spoke the same words. And when he returned, he found them asleep again (for their eyes were heavy:) neither knew they what to answer him. And he cometh the third time, and saith to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

Saying, Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground.


And he was transfigured before them: and his face shone as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. read more.
While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were in great fear. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. And as they were descending the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be raised again from the dead.


And it came to pass, while he was blessing them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.




Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.


And all bore him testimony, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
