Is not this that carpenter: Mary's son, the brother of James, and Joseph and of Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they were offended by the reason of him.

And as many as were in the synagogue when they heard that, were filled with wrath and rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him even unto the edge of the hill, whereon their city was built, to cast him down headlong.

But first must he suffer many things, and be refused of this nation.






Jesus said unto them, "Did ye never read in the scriptures? 'The same stone which the builders refused, the same is set in the principal part of the corner: this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.'

And, behold, all the city came out, and met Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him to depart out of their coasts.


And all the people cried at once, saying, "Away with him, and deliver to us Barabbas:


Seeing then that I have called, and ye refused it: I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded it, but all my counsels have ye despised and set my corrections to naught. Therefore shall I also laugh in your destruction, and mock you, when the thing that ye fear cometh upon you: read more.
even when the thing that ye be afraid of, falleth in suddenly like a storm, and your misery like a tempest: yea, when trouble and heaviness cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not hear: they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me. And that because they hated knowledge, and received not the fear of the LORD, but abhorred my counsel, and despised my correction. Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and be filled with their own counsels: for the turning away of the unwise shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall be their own destruction. But who so hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and have enough without any fear of evil."


They seek of me righteous judgments, and will draw nigh unto God. Why have we fasted and thou hast not looked upon it? Have humbled our souls, and thou wouldest not wit it?

For though they fast, I will not hear their prayers. And though they offer burnt offerings and sacrifices, yet will not I accept them. For I will destroy them with the sword, hunger, and pestilence."

My people perish, because they have no knowledge. Seeing then that thou hast refused understanding, therefore will I refuse thee also: so that thou shalt no more be my priest. And forsomuch as thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house named Justus, a worshipper of God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. Howbeit, one Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians gave audience and believed, and were baptised. Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, "Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: for I am with thee, and no man shall invade thee that shall hurt thee. For I have much people in this city." And he continued there a year and six months, and taught them the word of God.
