He said to them, “How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken! Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into His glory?”
He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day,
But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets—that His Messiah would suffer—He has fulfilled in this way.
As usual, Paul went to the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and showing that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.”

He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.

We all went astray like sheep;

From then on Jesus began to point out to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, be killed, and be raised the third day.

Then He said to them, “I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
“Now My soul is troubled. What should I say—Father, save Me from this hour? But that is why I came to this hour.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. After He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, He was hungry. Then the tempter approached Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Then Jesus returned from the Jordan, full of the Holy Spirit, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over, He was hungry. The Devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
So he took Him to Jerusalem, had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.
Again, the Devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
He was in the wilderness 40 days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels began to serve Him.
But He turned and told Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns, but man’s.”
After Judas ate the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Therefore Jesus told him, “What you’re doing, do quickly.”
I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over Me.
His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth he might devour her child.
The world cannot hate you, but it does hate Me because I testify about it—that its deeds are evil.

For everyone who practices wicked things hates the light and avoids it, so that his deeds may not be exposed.
“If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will also keep yours.
None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

As He approached and saw the city, He wept over it, saying, “If you knew this day what would bring peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.
